Hi for everybody! I'll try to narrow down my problem. I'm trying to place subtitles on some videos. The problem is that some of these videos have an "improper" VBR audio encoding. This way for compatibility, you will have rewrite the headers with standard CBR values. The problem is: for doing that, i use to convert the original audio file into a WAV format file and after that, i recompress it back to the video file using a MP3 codec like LameMP3. This way i can get a "stabilized" stream for putting the subtitles without having to skew the video file. Pitifuly, VirtualDubMod, from a week on, started to diplay the annoying message "Error initializing audio stream compression: The requested conversion is not possible. if anyone knows what it is about, please give me a helping hand. Thanks gork
Have you tried telling VirtualDubMod "no" when you get the message? I have added subs to avi with VBR audio without a problem. You can also use AviDemux which is less fussy. Drag the avi onto the window and on the top left, for 'Video' choose 'MPEG 4 XviD' from the drop down menu then the 'Filter' button to add the subs. Save the new file with a new name including extension (e.g newfile.avi).
Hi Attar. Thanks for the tip. I'll try AviMux and see what's gonna happen. Just to inform, when VirtualDubMod displays the message, you have no way of getting round it, your only option is hit the OK button. What makes wonder is the fact that a week later it was working all right and now diplays this message. All versions of VirtualDub have done so. Gork
Hi Attar. Thanks for responding. No this is not the message. I want to put an image here, but i don't know how. I have this report generated by MediaInfo. It's just a sample but i can send more if needed. this is it: General Complete name : C:\Documents and Settings\b\Desktop\CAVES.avi Format : AVI Format/Info : Audio Video Interleave File size : 700 MiB Duration : 1h 35mn Overall bit rate : 1 026 Kbps Writing application : VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.1 (build 2366/release) Writing library : VirtualDubMod build 2366/release Video ID : 0 Format : MPEG-4 Visual Format profile : Advanced Simple@L5 Format settings, BVOP : Yes Format settings, QPel : No Format settings, GMC : No warppoints Format settings, Matrix : Default (H.263) Codec ID : DX50 Codec ID/Hint : DivX 5 Duration : 1h 35mn Bit rate : 824 Kbps Width : 500 pixels Height : 210 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.35:1 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Resolution : 8 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.314 Stream size : 562 MiB (80%) Writing library : XviD 1.0.3 (UTC 2004-12-20) Audio ID : 1 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : 2000 Duration : 1h 35mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 192 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Stream size : 131 MiB (19%) Alignment : Split accross interleaves Interleave, duration : 40 ms (1.00 video frame) Interleave, preload duration : 500 ms Gork
Try installing the AC-3 ACM codec? http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/index.html - unless there is a pressing need, I would be using VirtualDub instead of VirtualDubMod.
