Hi for everybody! I'll try to narrow down my problem. I'm trying to place subtitles on some videos. The problem is that some of these videos have an "improper" VBR audio encoding. This way for compatibility, you will have rewrite the headers with standard CBR values.

The problem is: for doing that, i use to convert the original audio file into a WAV format file and after that, i recompress it back to the video file using a MP3 codec like LameMP3. This way i can get a "stabilized" stream for putting the subtitles without having to skew the video file.

Pitifuly, VirtualDubMod, from a week on, started to diplay the annoying message "Error initializing audio stream compression: The requested conversion is not possible.

if anyone knows what it is about, please give me a helping hand.

    Thanks

Have you tried telling VirtualDubMod "no" when you get the message?
I have added subs to avi with VBR audio without a problem.

You can also use AviDemux which is less fussy.
Drag the avi onto the window and on the top left, for 'Video' choose 'MPEG 4 XviD' from the drop down menu then the 'Filter' button to add the subs.
Save the new file with a new name including extension (e.g newfile.avi).

Hi Attar. Thanks for the tip. I'll try AviMux and see what's gonna happen.

Just to inform, when VirtualDubMod displays the message, you have no way of getting round it, your only option is hit the OK button.

What makes wonder is the fact that a week later it was working all right and now diplays this message. All versions of VirtualDub have done so.

Is it this message - because there's no 'OK' button.
