VirtualDubMod suggests downloding some other program

Hi,
I have used several times VirtialDub 1.7.7 for embedding subtitles to avi files. Since recently I have experienced some problem with loading a certain Avi file, I have downloaded and installed VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 'hopping it would allow me to load the said AVI.To my surprise, when I doublle-clicked on the VirtuaDubMod.exe file there appeared a message suggesting to use some other program, because VirtuaDubMod cannot handle some files (I think Maroshka or some similar name). Unfortunately I didn't right down the name of that other program, and next time when I duoble clicked on VirtuaDubMod.exe the said mesage didn't appear anymore.
Could someone tell me what is the name of that other program and whether it's really better than VirtuaDubMod.
