    thnx

[!] AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected. VBR audio in AVI is
non-standard and you may encounter sync errors up to 2842ms when
attempting to extract WAV files or processing the audio in Direct Stream
Copy mode. Full Processing mode is recommended to decompress or recompress
    the audio. (bitrate: 113.7 ± 9.3 kbps)

That error indicates either one of the parts doesn't match by one being either PAL or NTSC or a combination of both and vice versa. You may have to convert both files to 1 specific format then retry the join.

I've recently decided to convert my entire library of DVDs to avi. I'm using AVSMedia avs video converter to convert everything to XviD.avi format. I haven't had any problems at all and the quality is astounding. What's even better is that you can return the converted video back to vob dvd files and have a nearly perfect quality DVD. You're always going to lose a little quality when compressing. This software does both joining and converting.

You can either follow the advice in the warning or use VirtualDubMod instead. AVI-MuxGUI would be another option.
