Unusual? Yes, but in any case, viruses and especially trojans can cause many problems. I read your other post on this problem and my advice would be to post a HijackThis log and let someone take a look to make sure no other problems remain on your computer. You said it told you to revalidate because of a hardware change, so sounds to me like one of those viruses or trojans did some damage.
I went through a site that explained all the R1-O23 numbers...and most things looked ok...but i have this pesky Isass.exe thing thanks Niobis ------------------------ Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 7:34:02 PM, on 1/4/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16441) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCDsrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exe C:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\tcpsvcs.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\WgaTray.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\keyhook.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\ISUSPM.exe C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wpabaln.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\sched.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avguard.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avgnt.exe C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avscan.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe F:\HiJackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://ca.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/sp/*http://ca.yahoo.com R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.ca/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ca.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ca.yahoo.com R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://ca.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ycomp/defaults/su/*http://ca.yahoo.com R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Windows Internet Explorer provided by Yahoo! As suspected, you're not completely clean. You said you have a pesky Isass.exe, but you do not. The one you do have is Lsass.exe which is legit. Isass.exe is a trojan and is cleaver by using a capital I, which when shown in some text would look like a L. But in you case, it's not there, so no worries about that one. There are other problem though, so let's address those. First, you have two antivirus programs running. This is not recommended because they can conflict each other and may cause false positives. You need to choose the one you like best, (AVG or AntiVir) and uninstall the other. As for malware problems, it seems like a few remain, and there are a lot of left overs. Look for and if found, delete these files: Note: you may have to show hidden files and folder to see these. Please tell me if you were able to find and/or delete both. C:\WINDOWS\jkhhi.dll C:\WINDOWS\mgrs.exe Next, open HijackThis and do a scan only. Place a check beside the following: O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5BF6ED9E-779D-4170-81C5-2CBDEEA2072C} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {930D35D2-094D-41B9-8E89-D1B76F2C6E97} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C46C6CE1-600D-4000-BDB5-DE436E6937BA} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smgr] mgrs.exe O18 - Filter hijack: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file) O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhhi - C:\WINDOWS\ O20 - Winlogon Notify: yayvtst - yayvtst.dll (file missing) O21 - SSODL: LDpswSend - {71EC5123-28DF-324A-D76B-32549AB4C338} - (no file) Close all windows except HijackThis and then click "Fix checked". Restart your computer. Run a new scan with HijackThis and post the fresh log, please.
I found both files no problem! removed those...did the scan and fix with hijack this. So far so good! I also took your advise on the two antivirus programs - got rid of AVG that AntiVir is a great program....found alot more stuff than anything else has ever found...files from like 3 yrs ago ya whooooo Thanks again Niobis

Might want to remove these, they are not viruses. Just dead strings. R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = Edit: Not trying to step on anyones toes. LOL Very funny!
Edit: Umm, I didn't see QuikDraw's post before I posted mine. But QuikDraw, those two entries are not of any harm. It will not hurt to leave them. Also, I'd appreciate if you didn't step on my toes. Good job, but one of those entires still remains. It's not a high-risk entry, but it should not be there and needs to be deleted. I've ran into this problem in the past, but it's been a while since I've helped with HijackThis logs I can't remember to save my life how to fix this bugger. After a long, extensive search, many posts I've looked over just say to fix the entry with HijackThis, but HijackThis cannot fix this entry. The only other way I've saw to delete this is to run ComboFix. It will be an over-kill method in your case, but at least it will be gone. Download [bold]ComboFix.exe[/bold] to the desktop from here. Open [bold]ComboFix.exe[/bold] and follow the prompts. [bold]Note[/bold]: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running, it may cause it to stall. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Now, it's not really necessary to post any more logs, but I would really appreciate if you post the ComboFix log and a fresh HijackThis log just to make sure the entry was in fact deleted, and so I can have them for my references. Thanks.
