the "problem" is the virus\malware. system restore is in all programs\accessories\system tools.normal mode is the usual way of getting into windows, safemode is for trouble shooting.

Thanks for explaining DDP. Found system restore in all programs BUT it is turned off! Its asks if I want to turn it on and I say YES but it doesn't turn on? Opens a box where it comfirms the C drive system drive is turned off but I cannot unclick the box. Says disabled by group policy. Can you advise how to do a safe system restore?

    Thanks

in the post screen betweem pc startup & windows, start pressing the f8 button on keyboard so that a menu comes up with safemode & others. select safemode & windows will eventually load into safemode which will look different then normal mode. don't think this will work as system restore is turned off so save your data & do a re-install of windows & programs.

Hi DDP. I pre-epmted what you suggested in saving my important files on a memory stick. Scanned the stick TWICE with NORTON then moved them onto my girlfriends laptop. Then guess what the virus is now on my girlfriends laptop! I am starting to loose the will to live!

SO are you saying there is no way to turn the system restore on?

Hi, I think I can help if you have Virus/Malware.

If the below programs do not load change their .exe file name (not the shortcut)to something like iexplorer.exe and they will work fine.

Do not run more than one spyware/malware program at once (they might conflict) you may also have to disable you Anti Virus temperarly to scan with them.

Most effective in the following order:
    1. Malware bytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-download.php

    2. ComboFix: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

    3. SDFix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/sdfix.php

    4. SmitfraudFix: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/resources/link243.html

    5. SpyBot Search and Destroy: http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd162.exe

Also ensure you have the newest version of java as some of the old one's have vulnerabilities.
Other things to consider if you don’t already do them a third part firewall, as windows firewall only block incoming traffic, if you are infected you want something like ZoneAlarm which will block outgoing traffic also. Please ensure Windows Firewall is switched off if you install a third party firewall.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info terry! Will give all of them ago! SO I take it these programs do a scan then remove/destroy the virus/malware?

Also reference the outgoing firewall you spoke of, doesn't NORTON have a outgoing FIREWALL? This is the anti virus I have you see.

    Thanks

Hi Yes they are very effective in scanning and removing Virus/Malware from your PC. I also use Norton but am unsure if it has a friwall built into it. I installed ZoneAlarm lst night (free version) and every time there was outgoing trfic ZoneAlarm asked me to Allow/Deny ect which I think is good because then you have more control and can see if something is trying toconnect to the internet. Also helpful if you are infected and the outgoing traffice will increase and give you an incling something is not right.

    Thanks Terry! Will try tonight!

So I disable WINDOWS FIREWALL and NORTON. Then install and run each of them one at a time. Then when there done switch it all back on?

I may even install this extra firewall.

    Cheers

Deffinately disable Norton, not sure if you have to disable the firewall. The perform each step in the order given. Once all scans have been completed switch back on your AV and firewall. Ensure not to have more than one of the programs I mentioned in my guide running at one time as they will conflict.

    Good Luck!

If you are still unable to do this I should be able to e-mail you the programs as I think they are about 5mb each.

Hi Terry. I just tried opening these links with my other computer and the link worked! I think whatever is on my computer is stopping me from accessing these sites as it knows I am trying to get rid of them! Perhaps you can email me the links as you said?

    Hi Joner31 ,

I have e-mail programs 1-4 to your hotmail account, unfortunately number 5 is 15mb, however if you complete steps 1-4 in my guide you should...should be able to open the web link on your PC and downlaod the file. Failing that download it on another PC and brun it to disc.

    Good luck.
