    Hello,

My computer (laptop) is infected with a virus. I have Vista.

First, when I turned the computer on there were very much messages of a 'virusscanner' (this was the virus itself). I recognised it from someone else who had a virus like this so I knew it was a virus.

I tried to use McAfee to delete these programs but this is how McAfee looks like (it's Dutch but it's saying it isn't defending my computer anymore and I can't use the recover button for McAfee):

So I used Windows Defender and he found some things but it didn't help. I searched for other programs (with the safe mode on Vista) to delete this virus and I came up with 'Spyware Terminator'.

This seemed to work, it deleted PC health cleaner and Micro AV and a couple of Yur###.exe (### are random numbers) files.

Then I started the computer in the normal mode and I got a blue screen. I couldn't read it but it counts up to 100 with steps of 5. It is in the screen for about 3 seconds and after that the computer restarts. So now I am also on the safe mode of Vista, because the normal mode isn't working anymore.

I read on this forum that you are familiar with these problems and that I can fix it with your help (I hope).

I would really appreciate it if you could help me.

Oh btw, I also can't use the task manager. If I press ctrl alt del it isn't there.

I am sorry, but I can't find the edit button, only for the title, so therefore i need to make this dubbelpost.

I tried to start the computer in the normal mode after I posted the above post and it didn't gave the bluescreen immidiately. McAfee looked good and said it was protecting again.

There was no sign of the virus programs, so I think they are gone. I think they have done harm to something else and therefore Vista isn't working properly (I am not sure of this).

Now McAfee sais it doesn't work again (I am now working in Safe mode again). When the virus was on my computer McAfee said it wasn't working also in normal mode.

If you need anymore information I am happy to give it to you :)

I am sorry to make another dubbelpost but I think this is also important

I searched on this site and found that I could use f8 when starting the computer. I restored Windows Vista and the problem seems to be gone. I can also use task manager again.

But still I don't really trust it. The computer seems to be slower.

Could you give me some advise?

    Hi henkie2

Before we begin the cleanup process, it is important to do a little analysis first. We will analyze your computer with a tool called HijackThis.

Please download the HijackThis zip file. Save it onto a convenient place in your computer, and then unzip the file.

    Rename HijackThis(.exe) to scanner(.exe).

Next, run scanner(.exe). A window will pop up.

    • Click on the button which says Main Menu, then Do a system scan and save a logfile.
    • Please wait for the scan to be completed.
    • After the scan has completed, a text window will pop up. Please post the contents of this window here.

This will also be located at hijackthis(.txt) in the same folder that HijackThis was originally saved.

NOTE:: Do not fix anything using HijackThis, as this may also damage legitimate components of your computer.

    Best Regards :D

    Hi mntnbiker

    Now, please download ComboFix.
With ComboFix, at the download window, please rename it to Combo-Fix(.exe) before downloading it.

Please disable all security programs, such as antiviruses, antispywares, and firewalls.
    Also disable your internet connection.

    • Run Combo-Fix.exe and follow the prompts.
**Understand that things like your system clock changing and your desktop disappearing might happen. Do not worry, because all will be restored later.
    • Wait for the scan to be completed.
    • If it requires a reboot, please do it.
    • After the scan has completed entirely, please post the log here. The log will be located at C:\ComboFix(.txt)

Do not click on the ComoboFix window, as it may cause it to stall.

    Best Regards :D
