Virus?

    Hi i downloaded this small program..but of course it didnt work..and now my computers acting really wierd..i was thinking it was a virus or somthing but whenver i scanned for it i found nothing..heres what its doing. Whever i try to open up lets say Guild Wars or any other program for that matter i get a "Open With" window where i have to choose what program to open it up with..well on some program i can just find the directory where the original program is located and click it and it will work..but on certain programs like DvD Shrink it wont work..i cant get into my Control Panel to add or remove programs or go back to a certain date to fix the problem.. Please Help Me.. I have a HP Pavilion 714x

    If ypu have a good anti-virus you should be able to boot from the cd that its on and check for virii from a boot level. If that is not an option then press F8 when booting and start your machine in safe mode, you should then be able to locate add/remove programs from there and see if ya cant locate the problem.

    To access the add/remove program window access "start-> Run" (or just hold down the windows key and r)then type into the run box "appwiz.cpl" which will open the window for you.

    To access system restore try "start->Programs->System tools->system Restore"
    If this fails.
    Re-start the pc and tap "F8" key as the machine starts to access the boot option screen. select start in safe mode. Log on to your identity if asked, by selecting your name. When asked to enter safe mode or enter system restore select "No" which will start the system restore wizard. Choose a date previous to your problems and then follow the on screen instructions.

    ok, thanks guys i'm gonna go home and try it right away..thanks for your help if i have any complications i will be sure to ask you guys
