for trojans go here and DL this full working 30 day trial, do not forget to update the defs before running
    http://www.moosoft.com/

    also trojan hunter is good
for viruses I would recommend F SECURE , I do not know if they have a trial version. It is realy good and also removes spyware.

do NOT use McAfee, no matter what.

for spyware use Spyware Doctor, they have a trial version, just finds will not remove till you buy.

online spyware remover spywareguide.com left side under online tools

    online virus remover trend micro

your pc is still infected. In the shop here it sometimes takes 3-4 different trojan removers , a couple of different virus removers and the same for spyware. I do not know why one program will not remove all, that's just the way it is. Yours sounds realy infected, a lot of times when a pc is that infected, it never works right after the removal. The pc is fast and all just flakey, I guess the malware writes itself into the registry then the removers rips some of them out leaving nothing.

more ram will not help. Yes a program will say it has found no more viruses, that is why you have to run others, lime wire as just about all P2P is a conduit for malware. Did you DL any of the programs or do the online scans I suggested. ? I do not want to come off sounding like a ( fill in the blank) , but just guessing what to do will not work, your pc will stay infected.

...also free programs like adaware and spybot, although good, will not cut it if that is your two spyware programs. You need real professional programs that go a lot further like spyware doctor ot F SECURE.

is that instant messaging ? I do not have instant messaging, instant messaging can be used against your pc, . You can think of malware as bad gas in a car. So until you get rid of the bad gas, no matter what you do, replace the plugs, put on a new carb, set the timing, it will not matter, the car will still run bad.
It is unfortunate that your pc is infected, my next three PCs I have to repair are infected also. A WAR ( WIPE AND RELOAD ) might be an option too. Back when I had P2P , i would DL music and such. There was a music file that actually was a trojan , i clicked on the file and nothing happened. I saw the HD activity light flicker. What the program did was: 1. opened a port on my pc 2. searched my HD foe MP3s
    3. mapped a network drive of the mp3 folder to somewhere across the internet, where someone started to copy my files. They could have just as easily borked my pc or run any other trojan they wanted to.

yes and no. Hows that for an answer ? Microsoft says the pc should be at least a pent 2 333 mhz, I say at least a pent 3 400 mhz. The minimum ram is 128 meg, I think it should be 256 meg.
More than likely if it is a Dell or other name brand and the xp cd is not the OEM cd with the hologram, probably no it will not work. On the other hand if the new pc and the old pc are both Dells it may.

Here is a link for price grabber and a copy of XP home for $48. I am in no saying this is ok, though I have bought a lot of software from price grabbers store fronts, you have to read the reviews of the past customers for this store front and decide for your self. I think XP home sells at the stores for $170. What they send is just the cd and the cd key, nothing else.
