vista is a resource hog, and is causing the slowdown. you'll have to turn down some settings to get it smooth.

you can try overclocking the 3850 with catalyst control center, and see if that helps out. also, sp1 should be installed. and don't use aero.

vista isn't bad, but it doesn't have the gaming power xp has.

You effectively downgraded your rig. Vista will slash performance off all your games and apps, it makes no sense at all for a gaming rig unless your hell bent on having DX10.

    eww nasty people

vista uses your resources better it's not a 'hog'

what is the point of having 4 gigs of ram and not using it?

vista plays games great on my rig
    back to the problem..........
update your drivers and put service pack one on :)

Vista is not terrible for games, but it does indeed lack in performance compared to XP, usually this is down to the drivers, not the OS itself. Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Vista?

Another option - you should disable Aero before playing games, that can cause problems with ATI cards.

Are you using Directx10 features in your games? They can cause big performance drops - not that they're unjustified as they can add some extra graphical features, but as I'm sure you can imagine, more detail means less performance.

Hmm, indeed, COD4 does only use DX9 shaders it seems. To be honest, it's probably just the downside of Vista drivers for your graphics card. Which revisions of catalyst have you used?

Yes, I think you need to disable the floppy option in the BIOS - presumably your CMOS was reset when you took out the motherboard - seems a little odd.
