    Hi Guys,

I don't know if this is just a problem with my laptop as I have searched google for a while now and have become quite frustrated about finding the solution to the following problem. There are 4 users on a home laptop and they can all access each other’s files, eg photos, documents, music etc. Hence if someone else knew this they could easily view sensitive document which I have. This is the same whether the user is an admin or standard user.

I have removed permissions from the security tabs for those users from my document folder under the users folders in vista under my account, however i find that once you log into any of the other users accounts for which you have removed permissions for them to access your documents, they are able to regain permission to open the file by going through the security tab and advance security, whereby you can add accounts to access the folder by adding permissions to view someone elses files.

Simply put how can I stop other users gaining permission and hence gaining access to my files from their user accounts.

    thanks.

Two questions. Did you remove the UAC pop ups? Because that would be it. OR is this just the shared folders you are viewing, and not sensitive folders?

Hey, no it's not the shared documents it's my accounts documents. Just Everything under 'my documents'. I came accross the UAC pop thing while searching google, but it was said that this would make your computer less safe. Is there any wat of doing it without disabling UAC pop?

I'm I right to say the UAC pop is the security pop ups you get in vista when you install something and also when you take ownership of a folder?

I'm sorry I was assuming that UAC was currently disabled. Since the case is that it is enabled, when you go to change the user permissions via another account, are you putting in the UAC password in order to do so?

No it does not ask for a password, all that happens is you get a pop up saying you must take owenership of this folder before you can access it. When you click continue the security folder option opens and you are then able to add permission and take ownership of that folder eg, someone elses documents folder.

I am sorry but I really can't see how that is possible. If the user is not admin then it must ask for a password. All I can really say is that its weird. I've had my fair share of oddities in Vista. /bump so that maybe another user can help.
