I watch flv files downloaded from the web.

VLC player play these flv files. However, I can
skip back and forth while playing these flv files. It seems that VLC doesn't support fully this kind of flv format.

Is there any codec I need to instal in order that VLC player will support flv files fully, i.e that it will be possible to jump along the movie back and forth?

one alternative is to convert the flv to avi, but I just dont want to do that.

This was supposedly fixed in 0.9.0
If you are using the latest release 0.9.2 and it still isn't fixed, then there isn't anything you can add.
VLC uses it's own, self contained, codecs - it doesn't use any externals.
    You might try MPC instead.
Note:I never made the switch from release 8 of VLC (the seeking did not work there) to release 9, so I cannot state that seeking does work in the later releases.

I don't use vlc heavily enough to comment on skipping, but i do use MPC a lot, MPC is one of the best players, for me anyways
