    Hi,

After installing all kinds of coddecs to play avi files, I decided to try VLC player. VLC is the only player that plays my avi files. The only problem is, whenever I move to a specific location of the video, the video gets distorted for about 5 secs. It is frustrating to watch videos when I cannot search for a specific location that I want to watch. Anyone has this problem?

I don't have VLC installed at the moment but do remember this and just assumed it was normal and just the player catching up. If you wish to install codec's that will play just about anything, the K-Lite codec pack (Full) should and contain's Media Player Classic (a good player but won't play as many format's as VLC and part of the install with thing's like GSpot)(you can choose whether to install them or not): http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm or the XVID codec will play 90-95%: http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html Just be sure to uninstall all your other codec's you installed because they can conflict.

After reading the OP I'm tempted to say the problem isn't with the player but rather with the file. Drop that file on GSpot and post the info here.
