Dont know what its like in everyone elses part of the country but over here (Teeside) - Everyones panicing...

Theres a roumour that VM are going to send a signal down the line over the next few days to switch of all after market boxes..

Everyone you talk to says "oh yeah my aunties brothers sisters friends vets dads chipmunks dentist told me, hes really high up in vm"

Correct me if im wrong (which im sure you all will)

you CAN NOT send anything down a COAX line to kill an after market box?

And why leave it a few days, why not press the big red button and do it now?

    What do you all think?

Yeh, it's like that channel we all can see which says "you are using an illegal set top box.....blah, blah.....
Because our boxes receive everything they have sent this channel down & the legit boxes cannot see this channel...I wonder how many other people saw that channel & panicked....didn't fool me in the slightest....at the end of the day it's only like Tom & Jerry.(cat & mouse)..we are after all stealing.
I have faith in the guys to deliver my starview rom update v soon

moeiom - you are right - for some reason every person in T-Side that has no idea about these boxes (yet went ahead and purchased one) IS freaking out thinking by some amazing feat that VM will be able to 'fry their box'.

Do they not realise that this has happened previously, for the past number of years !!!!

I'm watching this forum like a hawk - waiting for the E'vox hero to come along with updated firmware, however, after reading so many stupid people's posts and seeing your comment about T-Side, I felt the urge to sign up and make my point :)

    Out !!

LOL - thats class - the mentality of some people is amazing...

Someone knocked on my door earlier - said his box had gone off and he could never get it back on - I asked him how long it had been like that...........his response......... '7 or 8 months'

    I honestly couldn't believe it.

    Happy days !!

Yeah you can now mate, just do another scan it will be there somewhere!

You will need to do a rescan - since it only came back onto the Cable services around a week or two ago. It won't just pick it up itself.

Other alternative is to upload a new channel file - plenty of people on these forums offer a Channel Dump folder in their shared files - check if they have an up to date one for your area.

I tried a rescan but it keeps saying "0 program found." Its not exactly my biggest worry because the legit box downstairs has it...

If you are getting 0 programmes found I suspect you are scanning the wrong provider. A bit more info would help like what area are you in, who is the provider for that area (V*M will not do!) what box do you have?

Well................all the evidence points to the Cable Companies making a massive effort to stamp out the unauthorised boxes!

It can not be a co-incidence that they have found a way to disable the Auto Update and changing the keys twice (and more) daily.

Obviously new tactics to disrupt and annoy any "freeviewers" and anyone who thinks this will go away is an idiot!

There is a software fix available already which is updating codes but the Cable Companies will sting the line again and put paid to it. I really can't see people flashing their boxes weekly and if they keep up this pressure, they will succeed in stamping out these boxes.

Sorry to be negative but the happy times are OVER!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They are not disabling the auto update, what has happened is the ECM (the stream within the cable signal that holds the information to store the key to decode the channel) has changed the what the key code is detected by the CAM/EMU (software emulation of the physical card you get in a legit cable box) therefore the CAM/EMU is unable to detect the new key roll and hence you dont get the channel

The firmware will fix this by working out the new method of the key roll

only way VM can kill all box;s is to move to Nagra 3 (currently using Nagra 1 - they could move to Nagra 2 but that has been cracked)

If they were to move to Nagra 2 or 3 then all the legit boxs will need to be replaced and that aint going to be cheap.

This post is courtesy of zapppo64, and is used to dispel the doom merchants, if they had the capability they would use it, but as pointed out by zapppo, it is not at the present time, cost effective, so lets not have any more depressing talk about killing anything, again the post is courtesy of zapppo, with many thanks.
