VOB to MP4 software? Current and working?

I've downloaded and tried many programs and none of them are working. I'm trying to rip from DVD then convert the VOB to MP4. The end goal is to transfer this stuff to my ipod but still have the option to use it on my computer in high quality.

I'm looking for a program that does as much as possible (all-in-one). Ripping isn't necessary but everything else is. I'd like the program to be able to seamlessly join VOB files and be able to choose many settings like encoder, framerate, audio bitrate, etc. I don't mind paying a little but I want to make sure it works very well before I dish out some money for it. I'm looking for something by a company who puts out updates as well.

Please give recommendations based solely on personal experience.

I use SPAM to do this. It is quite easy to use and you may have a try.

 

Try TMPGEnc Xpress. It will let you play with bitrate and has filters for video.

Try Sony Vegas. (you can download a free trial of it). You can import the VOB file in there and render it as an MP4.
