    Hi guys...

'cause I'm tired of loosing time and quality creating DVD to SVCD using divx as temporary source, i'd like to know if it's possible to do a kind of conversion (TMPGenc) directly from VOB files to SVCD.

Yes it is possible.. and very easy too..(I'd like to ask why the h*ll you have convert first to divx and after that to mpeg..but i won't :)

DVD2SVCD and TMPGEnc is the answer. Software you'll find here in aD software-pages. It is possible to do with TMPGEnc only, but DVD2SVCD helps alot.

    I gave a watch to that program,but:

    1)R U sure it's one step dvd 2 svcd? Doesn't it create any temporary avi(using dvd2avi)?

2)Is there any guide 2 that helps me 2 convert only with tmpgenc?(i trust it and not anyother...)

    "1)R U sure it's one step dvd 2 svcd? Doesn't it create any temporary avi(using dvd2avi)?"

Hmm.. First you mention DIVX (=mpeg4) and now you talk about AVI.. It's not the same thing, i think..? I understod that you convert first to DIVX and after that you convert DIVX to mpeg2.. Correct, if i misunderstand the question. (I usally write to Finnish site, so my english is not so good.. :))

When you use DVD2SVCD + TMPGEnc, the result is still the same, even you use only TMPGEnc. DVD2SVCD only tell it what to do. It also calculate bitrate, pick up audio(s) and subtitle(s), multiplex video & audio, cut it to fit in the disc and finally make image(s).

Now when i think it again and again, i've never heard that TMPGEnc would understand about VOB-files, you have to have DVD2AVI as a frameserver..

my suggestion is to use dvd2avi and then tmpgenc. I have found this to provide by far the best quality in vcd and especially svcd. It's a multistep process, but if you want it done right, then take the time. Here's a site that tells you how to do it http://entiendo.gotnet.net

Ok, let's try to summarize what were my trials:

    Ok,let me understand:

which is the difference between avi and divx if u've coded the avi with dvd2avi? I think none, cause that avi is not uncompressed.

By the way, I found a tmpgenc plugin that let u load in TMPG any mpeg2 (vob) file. My problem is to understand how to do in a quite nice way the conversion vob -> svcd with the right choice of audio track (tmpgenc doesn't accept ac3),the right choice of video file (vob splittng or merging).

I know that it should be done with dvd2svcd with less steps, but i was trying to achive the very best quality reducing the number of conversions in different formats.
