I have used this program for the first time since dvdshrink and dvd decrypter did not manage to crack the code on the dvd i wanted to copy. I used deafult configuration and it looked as it did the job, BUT i found out that the original dvd had 31 files in the video_ts dir while the ripped result had only 26 files. Not only that but the size was 6.5gb the original and the vobblanker ripp was only 6.1gb so what does the program really do, and what does it delete from the original version? I had problems ripping another movie that did not seem to be protected as dvdshrink nor dvddecrypter returned any protection, looked more like a reading error, but vobblanker did manage to ripp the movie, only it again was 0.5 gb smaller...... so i believe something important most have been delete. Thanks for answering my questions, and telling me if i should select something else then default, i only use the software to ripp the movie with every thing included when dvdshrink cant handle the protection code. X.
Basic VOB Blanker info from the author's site.... Brief description - VobBlanker is a tool able to blank, replace, cut and strip titles, more specifically, program chains or individual cells. From release 1.5 VobBlanker is also able to work (blank, preview, delete..) in the menu domain. How VobBlanker works - VobBlanker needs a FILE mode, unencrypted backup of the DVD to be processed. This backup can be done using a ripper in FILE mode or mounting in a virtual drive an unencrypted DVD image. - VobBlanker uses the info stored in the IFOs to access the Cells inside the VOBs. - When the VIDEO_TS.IFO file is selected, VobBlanker reads automatically all the IFOs in the same folder and stores in memory all the required info. - Now, the user is allowed to configure how the DVD is going to be processed, which PGCs are going to be blanked, etc. The user has to select the output folder where the processed DVD will be stored. - Project settings can be saved/loaded from Menu. - VobBlanker will NOT modify any file of the input folder. It opens these files for reading.
Hello Xantix, To be honest, I have never seen any protected disk DVDDecryptor could not have handled. I rarely use DVDShrink for removing protection. I prefer to safe the movie to the HD first. If DVDDecryptor does not work for your DVD, then try DVDFabdecryptor http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvdfab_decrypter.cfm. I am not sure, should be a correct link. If not, easy to find it on AfterDawn. Good luck! Roma
