Please direct me to the appropriate software that allows me to add voice over the background soundtrack. I have created Videos (.avi) using Fototime Pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have reviewed many products that appear to be the correct one but then they will not accept the video.avi format.

You need to extract the audio stream from the avi file first, using e.g. virtualdub. Then you have to decode to .wav format. Using wave editors like Audition, Nero Wave Editor, Audacity (free) or SOX (free commandline program) you can do the mixing. Afterwards you need to compress the resulting .wav file back to the audio format of the .avi file (e.g. mp3). BTW: Decoding lossy compressed audio, processing and re-encoding can decrease quality.

Tiger, I captured 8mm footage to my HD and now I'd like to use portions of the audio on that video to use as overlay on other scenes I'm going to shoot. Blaze Media says I can do it. What would you do to extract this audio to re-use?

    Thanks.
