When I open a folder with some of my old HDTV recordings, if W7 recognizes it, it writes MPEG-2-TS video, and if so, these files work in both WMP and VLC, but if it only recognizes it as Movie Clip, I can't get either WMP or VLC to open it.

So I installed my copy of Total Media player that came with my old Asus 3100 USB tuner, and I can now play these recalcitrant files....does this mean my PC has the codecs, or that Total Media player has them built in or something?
