Im making VCD from movies that I downlad from Kazaa. I try to burn them and they look like shi_ and sound like shi_. Anyone knows how can I make the movie look good and sound good. The file is AIV. I try all software but they dont look good. Any Help Pleace
Well, original source is always original source. If you shoot a video using camcorder in crowded movie theatre, it doesn't help what ever frigging format you use to encode it. And re-encoding AVIs to VCD is always A Bad Idea as it is whatever format conversion you're ever attempting to do. If you wish to have good quality, buy DVD or rip DVD.
So you think my best bet is to rip a DVD! So no matter if i download a AVI from any where. So if i rip a DVD to VCD is going to como out the same way as the DVD?
Nono.. Best quality what you can achieve without having a DVD writer nowadays, is to rip a DVD and encode it into 3-CD SVCD. Plays nicely with most of the modern DVD players, can have subtitles (if your player supports them), etc. And quality is excellent, somewhere between LaserDisc and DVD.

johnbmx: Ah, sorry. Obviously I meant lossy compression formats. AVI itself is not even a video format, just a wrapper which can contain whatever audio/video data you can ever imagine of (and not even good wrapper as it doesn't provide any kind of error checking, has idiotic limitations, etc). So, let's take this again: Never, ever re-encode a video (or audio) file which is already encoded in some lossy format, to another lossy format. The picture quality gets worse every time. This applies to all the normal operations: DivX->SVCD, VCD->DivX, SVCD->DivX, DivX->VCD, VCD->SVCD, SVCD->VCD, etc.. Only do this, if absolutely necessary (you only have DivX and you desperately want to watch it using your stand-alone DVD player, for example). So, always try to get best possible source and encode directly from it to the format you wish to have the video in and that's it.
Well, there are good formats that you can store inside AVI, like uncompressed Huffyuv, M-JPEG and obviously DivX. And the alternatives are normally far worse -- QuickTime, ASF, etc (all of them are wrappers, not actual compression formats)
Well, you can always try. TMPGEnc is the one that produces the best quality. If you're not satisfied with quality what it produces when converting DivXs to VCD, then you're pretty much out of luck.
Hey, Im tryng to rip a DVD but when I try using SmartRipper the speed is only 0.9x. and is taking 2 hours to rip. How can i make it faster?

i know now, but when i try to convert files on some of them (lord of the rings and black hawk down) the picture goes purple. does anyone know how to stop this.
