Sup, i'm new to the forums here, been makin XviD's for sum time now usin auto GK and DVD Decrypter, i recently upgraded my system. I had a questin to all those hardware people out there. I got a new Pentium D 830 Dual Core Proc, but can't seem to find out how to enable dual core mode in Win XP. I was hoping to be able to encode with one core and run games (such as HL2 or the such on the other core) but so far google didn't help. Anyone know how to enable Dual core mode in Win XP? any help or tips woruld be helpful thanks.
u don't have to enable it. it is set to run in dual processing provided that your software is also capable of multi-threading. Since most software currently is not capable of multi-threading, your xvid will be using 1 core and your game or second application will atomatically being using the other core.
ok, but arn't u supposed to be able to see 2 seperate graphs cpu graphs in task manager, or have core 0 and core 1 show up in cpuz?
If u have win xp pro. then in the performance tab of the task manager u should see 2 graphs of the 2 cpus.
ya have winxpro, see that part i'm not seeing? is there something in the mobo bios that needs to be enabled? or within win xp pro?
do u see 2 processors in Device Mangaer under Computer? try to read this page that i got from Tomshardware on pentium d: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20050405/index.html i have read other article on tomshardware that tells u how to assign each application to each cpu. if u have time do a search and read there.
