What kind of file are you trying to play and is the usb stick formatted in fat32 or nfts? Usb will not play mkv files. Working file types are .avi,.mp4,.mov,.wmv,.asf,and m2ts.

im trying to play avi files and its formatted in fat32 i can play the films through my xbox 360 but was wanting to use my blu-ray player. When i put my usb stick in nothing happens like its not compatible, i used to have a phillips dvd player with a usb port that played films so i thought there would be a way i could use this as well.

i'm pretty sure that model doesn't play anything over usb, check your manual to be sure.

I have two of those bd players. The usb port is for updating the firmware rather than hooking it to the internet.
