I'm amazed that so many people just flash therr drives and do not understand or read up on the whole process.

    @Toaster68

    Thanks for the reply mate.

Basically, when I purchased my Elite, ix 1.51 was the latest available version for the BenQ drive, which is the drive I have.

My friends recently purchased their consoles and 1.6 was available then, so I flashed their consoles with 1.6.

I just want to be sure that I have the correct firmware to avoid any bans on COD: MW 2 and Wave 4 games.

Forza 3 prieview or early release is wave 3. What are the odds that they would have done the early copies in w3 and the retail versions in w4?
    Just a Newb question?

People, PLEASE READ!! It doesn't matter if you have iXtreme 1.51 or iXtreme 1.6. Either firmware won't make a difference on keeping you safe. All the firmware does is to check the CRCs of the SS, DMI, PFI, etc. If 1 of the CRCs is bad, it won't boot a game.

So what I am getting at is as long as you check your ISOs with ABGX you will be fine with either iXtreme 1.51 or iXtreme 1.6.

After the ABGX360 update to recognize Wave 4:

People with iXtreme 1.51 will not have to do anything for Wave 4 games. Keep scanning your ISOs like you do with ABGX and continue playing.

People with iXtreme 1.6, keep scanning your ISOs as you have been doing. You can either revert back to iXtreme 1.51 firmware or run the activate disc to disable security checks. Again, when you run the activate ISO, all you are doing is disabling the CRC checks. If you have run your ISO through ABGX, you will be fine!

I think this guy makes alot of sense for a newbie, its a paranoid way of thinking, sure, but thats just the sort of thing MS would do! Of course, you could also say that this game is the only one with wave 4 and maybe wave 4 has been only been put on prerelease discs to try and catch the modded consoles?? So many conspiracy theories lol!
I get a funny feeling we'll see the next ixtreme firmware before december!

my question is, are you guys just going to flash with 1.51 now for less headaches for your customers? No one wants to use a activate disc.

I guess it is really going to depend of what type of games you play. Personally, the only upcoming game that I am going to play is CoD6. So I'm not really going to worry about reflashing back to IX 1.51 or using the activate ISO until then. I'll probably just wait til the firmware team releases the new firmware.

As for your customers, I'd give them that option. If they really want to play, they can burn an activate disc and do that in the mean time. Or if they are really lazy, they can pay you to reflash their console. :)

Original retail 360 games are not effected by old firmware.

    Also sticking with 1.6

Until there's a game that I absolutely need to play that's wave 4 (MW2?) I'll just wait for the newest FW release.

Yup, let the firmware team take their time with this. Plus they have the August 2009 Lite-ON to deal with too.

well put leerage, and if i understand you correctly. 1.6 or even 1.5 still isnt going to be safe to play a wave 4 game, its just that 1.5 doesnt do crc checks, so the game will load, but 1.6 does a crc check. but it's still not safe because we dont have an idea of if the game is safe yet because abgx isnt updated yet to recognize the new wave, and perform patching if necessary

The term "safe" is referred to as "performing CRC checks".

iXtreme 1.51 does not have the check for the Video Partition/PFI (Wave X). So it still checks the SS and DMI to make sure those CRCs are good.

iXtreme 1.6 does check all the CRCs (strict stealth checking = checking CRCs for SS, DMI, PFI, and Video Partition). You can however deactivate those checks with the activate ISO which will enable One Shot Boot mode.

As long as your are checking the ISOs with ABGX and are getting no bad CRCs, online play will be no different whether you have firmware that does those checks or not.

ABGX360 will need to be updated to recognize the new CRCs because of Wave 4 now.

When dealing with XBOX Live and iXtreme firmware, the term "Safe" is very misleading. Basically, iXtreme is just preventing your from booting a bad backup.

Dont think Safe means Safe. You are always at risk of bans and getting caught. But if abgx checks out its still the same even if you dont let the FW check it. Everything abgx checks is on the dvd so as long as it passes there, it does not matter how you boot it on the xbox. But im sure a new FW will be on the way. Hopefully we can continue Life as we Know it.

I wouldn't go backwards. I really think every one is jumping the gun here. Why not just wait a few weeks and see what happens, i guess unless you REALLY wanna play the new Cars game.

This is just now happening, so give the powers that be the time needed to fully understand and work out everything.

There is no iXtreme 1.51 for the 83850C Lite-ON. You will have to use the activate disk if you want to play wave 4 games.
