I have a 1st gen WD TV and it does support DTS on the optical out only. I do not have a receiver with DTS so I need to recode the DTS audio on the MKV file to AC3. Is there a program that will do this, and do it simply ? I found MKVtoVOB and it will do it , BUT it changes the file extension to MPEG. Am I loosing and Video Quality in this process or am I just being paranoid.

Ultimately I would like to have a MKV file in the end with AC3 audio. Am I asking too much. I dunno......

your insight was exactly what I needed. I really appreciate it. It worked perfectly.

It ran great one time through. I have Win7 32 bit 2 gig of ram and I get a runtime error 6. overload. I was converting aac to ac3. Is this not possible ?
