I just bought a WD160ide hdd from my friend for 20 bucks, because he had it in an xbox and for some reason he wasn't able to access it anymore.. I didn't know if it was scrap or not.. I want to put it in my computer as a secondary hdd. I installed it and checked my bios and it shows up but when i get into windowsxp it isn't there. I looked in device mgr. and it says it's running and ok. I tried a hdd partition prog. to see if i could access it and i get an error I/O failed. My friend i bought it from says it's locked.. whatever that means. My current hdd is a WD120sata. I would really like to salvage this drive if possible. Any help would be great!

okay the only way it seems to be able to be unlocked is to have your friend send you a copy of his Eeprom which is unique to every xbox and must be from the xbox that locked the drive. he can ftp it to his pc and send it to you. you can then use a program called liveinfo to read the Eeprom file, and spit out the unlock password generated from the Eeprom. then with this code you can use another program called hdunlock to unlock your drive. while the drive is in your pc. Sorry but this seems to be the only way to do this.
