I purchased a refurbished WD external hardrive listed in the subject line. Recently, this unit is not recognized by my Dell 531 Inspiron PC. After contacting WD support, who advised me to seek a "free partition software," I am stuck. I am unable to locate such software. Two computers report that the driver's are corrupt on this external hard drive. Any suggestions? Shannon
moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue. that is the hard drive but what is the make & model# of the enclosure? http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?lang=en
It sounds like a bad adapter board (part of the case, not part of the drive itself). This can generally be fixed by replacing the case...but some WD external drives are designed to prevent you from doing this...hard to say as I don't know that model number.
is it recognised by anything?? if not take it back and have it replaced. refurbished or not it is supposed to do the job it is intended for
