What do I do once I have a webpage made on my computer? I used frontpage 2000... I have a login at geocities but haven't done anything really. I just want to move my files there or some other place so that my friends can see my website.
Can someone help a clueless guy who is just beginning to learn html?
    thanx for you time...

    hey Jay05,
have you not got FTP info from Geocities? (or it could be in there FAQ)

Geocities aint that good either alot of connection problems (nicknamed Geoshities), but if it is for a temp website itll do i suppose : )

Once you have FTP Username and password you can get an FTP prog then upload you files to your hard drive space at geoshites, or these may even have a upload section via their web site.

You could try Lycos it might be a bit more simple for you... here is the link http://www.tripod.lycos.co.uk/
    its better aswell : )

Hope this helps on the road to webmaster golden globe of the year LOL (just kidding)

    Yip FREE

You just have to register (the usual email, username etc...)

On these web sites read what they offer, because you are using "Frontpage", the actual host has to have the frontpage extensions installed. (this is all down to the host though, not you)

Your web address would be somthing like

    www.50megs.com/mywebspace
    www.tripod.com/mywebspace etc....

When you register you actually choose what the "mywebspace" says.
you get the drift : )

Ok make it simple for yourself : )

1: Register with a FREE host.
2: Once registered you should have an email explaining how to upload your pages, if they mention upload via FTP then download an FTP Prog like FLashFXP from here

    http://www.flashfxp.com/download.php

    and install it...

Now open flashFXP click connect button, it will want you to enter the host name/address (eg. mywebsite.50megs.com) also a Username (provided by the free host usually in your email once you have registered) and password (again in your email).

Frontpage extensions are down to your host not you. (sorry i confused you with that jiberish LOL just forget about the extensions i mentioned and just try the above)

Mainly all the info is provided on the Free hosts web site and generaly step by step when you register. :)

Seems like your connecting fine with the host but getting probs when you transfere files...

hmmm.. Are you running a firewall? Try disabling it if you are, and try again. Firewalls can block the ports you need for these kinda things : )

How do I disable my firewall?

  12. Rosco404

If you are running a firewall, have a look in the bottom right hand corner next to were the time is...

there should be an icon of somesort (if you are running norton antivirus and firewall it will look like a green and blue globe) right click the icon and you should get a sub menu now on that sub menu select disable, and try you FTP again, to re-enable it do the same and select enable.

Ok if there is nothing there it could just be the firewall built into XP (crude but still a firewall) to disable that do this.....

Click START button then CONTROL PANEL find NETWORK CONNECTIONS then double click to open, now right click on your conection it may be LOCAL AREA CONNECTION or whatever you internet connection is! now after you right click the icon selcect PROPERTIES then click the ADVANCED TAB now un-tick the box for INTERNET CONNECTION FIREWALL (if it isnt already ticked)

Should have asked this at the start.. Have you installed any antivirus programes at all?

    Hope that helps :)
