Hi, I am having an usual problem with my CD-RW and I have no idea why. The drive will not read any disk I put in there. What happens is that when I double click on the drive with a disk inside, it opens a window with no files. Like I just accessed an empty disk. This is also happens though when there is no disk at all in there. When I access the drive without a disk in there, instead of giving me an error saying there is no media, it just opens a blank window as if there was an empty disk in there. The only reason that I can think of why this is happening is because I have an inexpensive burner and it might have gone bad while I was cleaning it with a compressed air can. All of the info in device manager in xp is okay. The drive is detected, has the proper drivers and says that the device is working properly. I am really confused, any help would be greatly appreciated.
hi all so did you shoot it with the tray open with compressed air, like a seriuos jet of air? it may be your laser has shifted? on the drive showing a folder with no disc in my drive does that it may be a master slave thing? as my new liteon and old plextor both do that! as they are 2 drives to one cable but my dvd-rw asks for a disc as its on its own cable! so dont worry on the folder thing! ok, is the disc seen in another computer? and is it a multisession un finalised disc? music disc or data? or packet writing disc? Thx... put a music disc in see if it will play? for testing..._X_X_X_X_X_[small]XP 1700 TBred [o/c 2004mhz = 12X167/33 = FSB-334mhz] A7V8X SATA150/RAID 2x80 gig [Bios 1012] HERCULES 3D PROPHET [9700 Pro] XMS Corsair Platinum pc3500 2x512 1024 meg ENERMAX PSU 550watts [/small]
Hi, Thanks for the advice, I put in an audio disk and it worked fine I also tried a Win ME disk that I got with my comp and that worked also. However, all other types of burned disks didn't work. I tried burned audio disks and data disks. Also, the drive doesn't work with Nero. When I try to burn something, nero doesn't detect that there is a blank disk in the drive. Also, I wanted to add that the drive worked perfectly last week. It is only recently that it is giving me problems and the only thing I can think I could have done to damage it is use compressed air. Is it a hardware problem or software one? Thanks in advance.
hi there, ok i had simarlar, but i'm not sure if its the same? but if i say we can eliminate it anyway! i bought a batch of bad discs! they would not be reconized in the drive and nero! got new ones and fine! now i have used say at least a 1000 of these! no problems, but this box was no good! seems proper discs work but cdrs not? Thx..
Hi, Nero does detect the drive properly. And when I put in a music cd it detects the disk properly also (I tried a few non burned cds and they all worked fine). As far as burned cds go, nero says there is no media in the drive. I have tried a few diff brands of cds. None of them work in the drive however, they all work in my dvd drive. I am wondering if there is something physically wrong with the drive or is a software problem like something is misconfigured? Thank-you.
Hi, Data CDs such as my WinME disk I got with my comp, Madden 2003, and other software work fine as do all music cds. However, data cds that are burned such as a back-up of my hw files, don't work. Neither do burned music cds (both wave or mp3) work. I have tried many different brands for cds from friends, no burned cds work? These burned cds do work in my dvd drive so I know they aren't bad. All non burned cds (music or data) work fine in my cd-rw. Also blank cdrs from many differnt brands are not detected by the cd-rw. Nero and Win both say that there is no medium in drive. This has confused the hell out of me. Thanks again.
hi umm? it sort of pionts to the drive laser or dust but from all your tests its got to be the drive! have you had it long? and what model is it? Thx...
Hi, thank-you for all the help. I guess I don't understand what is the big difference between burned cds and non burned cds(music cds, windows). Why is that no burned cds work at all while non-burned cds work perfectly? I mean if there is a hardware problem shouldn't both types of cds not work? Appreciate the help
Hi, I also have almost the same problem. In my case when i insert a CDR the drive keeps spinning and will not read it. Windwos has assigned a standard CDROM driver to it. Could that be the problem? Should I install a another driver? Where can I get one? The drive is Cendyne 522452AU Thanks
First try simply uninstalling the drive and rebooting so Windows can reinstall it... if that dont work manually set install the drive as a Cendyne 522452AU If you need special funky drivers visit the manufacterer's website_X_X_X_X_X_[small]ASUS A7V8X-X, AMD2500+ Samsung 1024MB, PC2700 360GB [3x120GB, 7200, 8MB] MSI Starforce, GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB[/small]
