i recently burnt war of the worlds and i went to burn it again for my brother in law and my e drive will not recognize the dvd.i know the movie is on the disc cause i played it on my portable player.so then i go and play it on 2 of my standalones and it will not load.so why does it play on my portable perfectly but not on my 2 standalones and my cpu?is there anything i can do,i do not have original anymore.can the material on the disc be recovered and reburnt?help please!

this has never happened before, all my burns for the most part play on all players.

    Hi there,

Playback issues are usually related to cheap media and burned too fast.

What speed do you burn your media ?

What's the MEDIA ID of the disks you use ?

Some DVD player will not play DVD+R.
Try to use some DVD-R or DVD+R but bookmark them as DVD-ROM (Not all DVD burners can do this) !

    My 2 cents...

    i have a sony dru-710a burner,i'm currently using nexxtech 8x dvd-r as blank media,i burn at 8x speed,i use shrink,then burn with nero.

so are you saying that i should buy dvd+r discs as opposed to dvd-r discs, that way i can booktype the disc to dvd-rom,that way most players will think its a actual dvd rom disc than a dvd-r disc, hence better playback?

i know the nexxtech dvds i have are considered cheap media, but the price was right and for the most part ive been successful with them.

i just dont understand why both my standalones say"wrong disc format".my E drive wont recognize the dvd at all,but my little portable player will load and play the disc flawlessly.thats odd cause most of the time about %25 of the burns i do will not load in my portable and it ends up saying"wrong disc format" but will play in both my standalones and my cpu.theres alot of weirdness going on here.

as asked beofore is there any program out there i can run my burnt dvd through that will recognize the material on there, even though my E drive doesnt recognize a disc in the drive, perhaps salvage it and possibly reburn it?HELP PLEASE!!! im tired of this crappola and i know someone on afterdawn has the answers.

    @dvdfreak1 -

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

...though i'm sure we've gone thru your logs before..

There are a number of programs that will assist in DVD identification.

Try DVDidentifier availabe at this forum. There is also DVDinfopro which you have to buy.

As to a program that will read what is already on a disc I alway use explorer.

If your drive is not recognizing the DVD in the drive I wonder if you have a drive problem? Check in your device manager and insure that it is working properly.

    Hi there,

Those were probably bought at Radio Shack (Now The Souce CC in Canada).

I'm ready to put money on it, those will be CMC Mag. !!!

nexxtech is the home brand for Radio Shack !

Burn those at 2x MAX !

Buy some Taiyo Yuden from http://www.blankmedia.ca (If you are from Canada).

    [bold]Update:[/bold] Based on http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=nexxtech

    those could be:

    CMC MAG. AE1
    or
    UME01....... ( What the hell are those <grin> )

Circuit City no longer carries any decent brand of media, I have stopped buying from them. A friend of mine bought those NexxTechs and gave me a couple of their backups, my Sony and Toshiba players spit them out, at least they have good taste.

    you should go here http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/710mediainfo_gb_all040820.html

Use the media sony recommends it's been tested with there lates firmware I have the same drive and use verbatun, maxell and tiyo yuden. I would not burn over 6X with this drive anything faster than that and the errors go threw the roof. +R vs -R your going to have to experiment with your standalone player.

    Good Luck

Given Sony's recent snafu, I'm not sure how much I would trust their recommendations.
