I've used Tmpgenc Xpress to re-encode a couple of avi files to mpg-2 now, and I wasn't having any problems with it (other than the incredible slowness and the occasional "can't recognize this file" thing that was a lie because it would recognize the file when I tried again) until today, when, upon trying to add a file to be converted, the program just ... disappeared. "Strange," I thought, and tried again. And ... it happened again. And again and again and again. As soon as I click on something to load it, the program just disappears. Thing is, I seemed to have bypassed it once, by using the wizard, but now that doesn't seem to work either. I uninstalled/reinstalled ... I don't know. I can't figure it out. Any suggestions?
Your excessive multiple question marks imply you think I'm some kind of an idiot, unless I'm mis-reading you, in which case ... never mind. Still, they imply a sort of urgency that I think is really unnecessary here, and come off as a little off-putting. Of course I've tried a different file, and a different file will work at first, and then the program will fall back into 'click and disappear' mode. As far as the program itself goes, Tmpgenc seems to work best for my purposes, so I have not yet tried a different encoder in this situation. Just using a different file and a different encoder really isn't going to solve my problem of wanting to convert a specific file with a specific encoder, is it? It may be the easier way out, but I'd really prefer to find out what the problem I have is and if there's anything at all I can do about it.
Careful, siometimes corrupt files make TMPGenc crash. Just to be sure, try loading it with VirtualDub and converting it to any AVI form you have (e.g. Xvid). If the file is corrupt VirtualDub will show some error messages.
i dunno if anybody is still there....but ive got a problem too. i use tmpgenc to make kvcds, they are basically vcds that can fit on one disk. u can get the template on kvcd.net. anyway, when i convert to kvcd using tmpgenc, the output mpeg file has edgy movement. In scenes where the camera is moving around a landscape, the video will sort of stop and start stop and start. its really annoying and i cant figure out how to fix it. it was workin fine just last week.. anybody got any ideas...thankyou
The VCD/Mpeg-1 format has a Locked DC Component Precition of 8 so you can not adjust this Perameter when useing the Mpeg-1/VCD Format... Make sure that you are encodeing to Mpeg useing the same frame rate as the Source AVI file , Meaning do not encode a 29.976fps File to 25fps and dont encode a 23.976fps to 25fps or 29.976fps ect because Tmpgenc doesn"t do very good Frame Rate Conversions so when you are in High motion scenes or in wide Panning scenes you will notice a Jumpy effect in the Video Playback.....
