Has anyone checked the 'hosts' file? Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts Check out these threads: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/377276 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/378733
thanks for the reply morph, but yeah the host files fine man...one of the 1st things i checked...its weird coz nothing on the net works, but google:S...
its a fresh install, and it has had no internet exposure to say of so it shouldnt have any malware or anything...
thanks for the post ziz but it didnt work...but i just realised it browses to more than google...it works on SUM websites...not many though...the main thing for me is live messenger...i really need it on the laptop for work, and the troubleshooter keeps giving me a "Key Ports" error, which it cant fix...
It seems like you cant resolve DNS queries. Try pinging one of the sites you cant access and see if it comes back with an IP. If not, you have DNS issues. What are your DNS setting on the laptop? You have a firewall? My recommendation: Buy a router. They are fairly cheap these days and it would most likely solve your issues. ~Rich
dns settings are set to automaticall detect and i tryed disabling the firewall on the laptop AND the desktop, theres no antivirus on it and other laptops work fine. its a vaio so im thinking maybe software that comes on the windows vaio install disk mite be causing sumthing?...is that possible?
yes it is possible almost 90 % of errors on computers are caused by corrupt software, my adsl wasn't working so the dude that came to set it up told me to reinstall my OS and I did, after that adsl worked perfectly.
ok well i didnt want to have to reformat and install such a pain but i guess im gonna have to thanx people. cheers ANdrew
Reformatting is taking it to an extreme. Most things can be fixed without that. If you can access some sites and not others, it is not corrupt software. Somthing is actively blocking those sites, or something is not configured properly. Lets get back to your DNS settings. What is your DNS IP address?? Can you ping it? Is it a local IP, or is it your ISPs DNS server?? ~Rich
