What are my options?

    I have a CECH-3001A system dont know what firmware came with it because my son upgraded to 4.00 the day we brought it.I want to take it to 3.55 to play backups.Is there a way from what i read there isnt I concidered buying a hard drive from ebay with 3.55 installed which I have found already.Im new to this so Ive done alot of reading but theres just so much stuff out there dont know where to start any advice?

    You need a downgrader. A harddrive with 3.55 installed doesn't work.

    not for a 3000 model. The 3000 model cannot be downgraded therefor there is no way to exploit it. I would trade it for a 2000 or a phat with a lower firmware. If you get a phat or slim 2000 on a firmware higher than 3.55 then you will need the hardware flasher as listed above.
