From what I’ve researched the advantages of ‘Loading/ playing the game from the hard drive’ are: 1 – Quicker loading times (Much quicker! I timed a load on ‘Quantum Of Solace’ and it went from disc load ’30 secs’ to hard drive load ‘10 secs’) 2 – Installing the game to your hard drive fixes a lot of those texture loading issues on certain games like ‘Gears Of War 2’ My question is: Are there any other advantages of Loading/Playing games off the hard drive?
Halo 3 told me I shouldn't use the hard drive caching feature or whatever as it said it will make the game slower as they optimized it to run from the DVD on Xbox's hardware. I would imagine this could cause problems with other games, thought not all developers are nice enough or smart enough to be aware of the problems
I recently played Halo 3 (via hard drive) thru to completion with no slowdowns whatsoever. I have however read about the so-called caching problems allegedly associated with running games off the hard drive.
So far ‘Gears Of War 2’, ‘Tomb Raider Underworld’ and ‘Quantum Of Solace’ have run brilliantly off the hard drive! It really made a huge difference on ‘Quantum Of Solace’!
xbox will be quieter when you using hdd to play games, textures in advanced graphics games will load faster
food for thought...if you save game to hdd then i guess backing up games to cheaper media is not a big deal if all youre going to do is use it once to save it to hdd? yes, no?
chnky that is correct, it is only verifying the security via the disk therefore the cheap media should not strain the laser. However i would not suggest copying the game via that cheap media, but instead from the original. As far as saving to the drive one specific example i have heard of was it fixing the problem backed up copies of gta had w/ the benq drives (the graphics glitches). Plus the faster loading, saving the laser, and potentially better graphics, this is the reason that lead me to doing the hard drive mod.
so rip it to hdd with original and then use cheap media for security verification....always looking for ways to save a few bucks.
