my problem is i used the disc that were on sale i did not know that the disc from japan were better thanks i'll try some disc from japan and see if it helps maybe the sony dvdr is ok i'll just need to find what disc works but these verbs from taiwan are gettin the job done
@rbrock Try some other discs - they may do better than the verbs on the Sony. The made in Japan Sony & Fuji are usually made by Taiyo Yuden - another great manufacturer besides Verbatim. Depending on where you are there are usually weekly sales on of the ones I mentioned. The made in Taiwan Verb are great too - they're made by MCC.
rbrock, no need to spend 89 to 100 bucks on a nice dvd burner, you should go to http://www.newegg.com , they have great deals on dvd burners, most are around 35-45.00 and most are free shipping or very good shipping rates, many people at afterdawn could verify how awesome of a website newegg is. If you get a dvd burner, I would recommend the BenQ dw 1650, It has solidburn, which learns how to burn blank dvds better each burn and it can booktype +rs. Jondrew
I had a thought..back on topic. I get my disks from a place that only gets small batches from the supplier. They have a manufacturing date always within 3 months or so. I bought some of the exact same disks from a place that is a big stockist and they were awful.. Must have been hanging about for ages.. The batch date was 18 months previous. Therefore I think the best disks are relatively new stock..Bargain bin sales might not be the best place for quality brands..after all, if they're quality brand..Why are they reduced?
Hey janrocks I order most of my Taiyo Yuden's online. But I buy +R instore (+r is cheaper instore) Stores here (I think your in the UK) run sales on quality media ever week. They are just really cheap here (don't know about the UK). Here it's getting harder and harder to even find 8x media in some places except online. Most of the stuff is the 'newer' 16x. So 50 Verbs 16x run about $14.99 on sale. Geez in the UK that would be even cheaper! (so much for the american dollar)
thanks binkie finished the sony firmware update read and burnt with a verb you guessed it no legos so i dont need to buy a new burner !
just tested the passion of christ it played on 30. dollar player but it legoed maybe now i need to find the right brand it least it works damn sony
@rbrock Yeah I think you just need to find the right ones for that Sony. I have a LiteOn (the oem of your drive) and verbs don't give it a problem but each set up is different. Check out http://supermediastorestore.com and pick up some Taiyo's. The ones I mainly use and you guessed it no legos
Hi people I'm having problems with my Sony DW-Q30A drive too, when I use it with dvd decrypter and instant copy it seems to copy but doesn't work on any other machine (computer or dvd players), it only works on my computer it's self. The same the other day when I copied some of my music onto a dvd for my girlfriend, I used the cyberlink file copy I got with my computer last Nov and again I can't read it on her computer only my own. I've no idea on what to do. I did once try creating a dvd from mpegs on dvd Architect and got the following error message: The command failed due to a IOCTL error. Your interface or drive may be configured incorrectly Details: ‘SFMMCX’-(17) ‘ATAPI’-(3) -‘SONY DVD RW DW-Q30A YYS2’-(1) Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 1795 Status: ff000000 Command: 2a 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 20 00 Sense: 02 04 08 Info: 00 00 00 00 Specific: 00 00 00 Extra: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 You've all been so helpful to rbrock, I was wondering if it was possible to help me too.
Binkie, The Verbatim made in Taiwan are made by CMC. The stamper says MCC and the dye is made by MCC, but the discs are made by CMC. MCC has no disc facilities in Taiwan.
@gogser Your firmware is a bit behind - the latest is YYS7 from 7/06. Here's a link to update it: http://www.sonyisstorage.com/bv_downloads/cpce/dvd/YYS7_WIN_B.EXE Your drive is actually a rebadged Liteon - SHW-1635S model I think. What brand of media are you using? Switch brands or spindles recently? What speeding are you burning? @joeryan txs for the info
Thanks binkie7 I'll try the latest firmware when I get home tonight. I'm currently using Ridisc Branded (8x) DVD-R (http://svp.co.uk/products-solo.php?pid=215) and burning at 4x speed, I have also tried 1x with the same results. I've used this type of media for years on my old computer with the Pioneer A104 (I think) which work fine. Lol rbrock I've been tempted to change drives especially with my old pioneer 4x working so well (better the devil you know!!), it so frustrating having a computer do everything except burn meaning I have to transfer everything over to my old computer and with it having USB1 ports you can imagine it's not the quickest
No problem Gogser Update the firmware, burn a disc and let us know how it goes! Ridisc uses a few manufacturers for the 8x -R's. You can id the manufacturer by popping a blank a decrypter (write mode). Decrypter will give you the info on the disc.
those Ridisc are either a choice of CMC MAG. AE1/TTG02 (and from svp you will get either, ie no choice/guarantee as to which of the two you would get). i need say no more.
