what can be done with an avi file?

    hello,
    I wanted to ask what is an avi file and what can be done to it... specifically my digital camera (canon sd450) captures .avi files. I don't know if they can be directly played on my dvd player (it doesn;t support divx) and if not, what soft do I have to use to cut, join small avi files and then see them on dvd - of course, trying to get the best video quality. Thx a lot

    avi is a container. Your camera probably uses MJPEG for video and PCM for audio.

    For a regular DVD player, you need to convert and author as DVD video. Plenty of info if you search.

    thx for your answer- but what soft do I need to edit (cut and join) the avi files?
