Hello folks. I am very new here and I apologize if this is already answered... My situation is this: A family member recently passed away and my wife spent a long time scanning in a bunch of pictures to give to the funeral home for them to make a slide show. They made a beautiful video slide show and transferred it onto DVD so it can be watched on any player. We have SEVERAL family members who want to have a copy and I am trying to do this for them. However my problem is the DVD itself is only 700 Meg. No problem for a DVD certainly, but the VIDEO_TS folder where all of the VOB, BUP, and IFO files are located registers as 59.9 GIG??? 1. How is this possible, and 2. How can I get this DVD copied? I just bought a DVD burner and the software is having problems with the massive size of that folder. I downloaded E.M DVD copy (a free program) and it seems to register each of the 99 VOB file as it's own 12 minute file, (the video is only 12 minutes long so I get that at least). Yes I'm a nube at this, Apparently it isn't as simple as sliding the disc over in windows explorer anymore. Ahh, the old days before DVD's. *LOL*
Download this free and great program and choose copy whole disk, save it to your hardrive. The DVD isn't 59gig it most have some sort of copy protection on it, after you've done this come back if you get stuck on how to copy the files back to disk. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvdfab_decrypter.cfm Download it from the software home page link.... Done the leg work for you, direct link below to download..... http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm
I don't understand the 59GB size either. You can use ImgBurn to make a copy of the disk. There are two steps;making an image file of the original disk then writing that image to a new DVD. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/imgburn.cfm http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=6380
Thanks for the reply. That's pretty much what all of the steps are, no matter which program ya use. ImgBurn is coming up with L-EC uncorrectable errors in both of my DVD burner drives when it tries to record an image. It comes up with sector 3072, then if I hit continue (after it faults for the 20th time) it goes to the next sector, same error. Then it seems to go on and on. I used to verify image and it is up to sector 3158 (being bad)at the moment and climbing. I wonder if it is just some sort of copyright protection?? The disc plays in both drives, as well as any of my DVD players around the house.
Did you try the suggestion from killalot to rip the files to the hard drive? Can the files be dragged off the DVD onto the desktop? I assume this is a burned DVD disk (not a commercial disk) and how it could be protected is a mystery.
Exactly, how can it? Anyway yes, I tried that too. I grabbed the VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_0.IFO, AND VTS_01_1.VOB files and put them on the desktop (just for ease of transfer) and burned just them to a DVD. It plays about 1 second of video in a regular player then is done. (the actual size of all of these files together is almost 700 Meg, the same size as the original disk as per the properties in My Computer) Again there are SEVERAL other files on the DVD in the video folder, but they just seem to be repeating the same 4 files (.BUP, .IFO, .VOB and nnn1.VOB files) that only increase in numerical value (example VTS_04_0.BUP, VTS_04_0.IFO, VTS_04_0.VOB, and VTS_04_1.VOB...) there are 99 repeats of these same 4 files just having the 4 changed to a 5 , then 6... and so forth on up) Again, THank you for the replies... This one really has me stumped.
Can you open with DVD Shrink? If there are multiple titles of the same video, you can correct this with PgcEdit or you can use DVD Shrink to backup only the title you want using the re-author mode.
This program claims to copy protect disks. It may be that in fact your disk has a form of protection that is different from the movie industry CSS and Macrovision type. http://photo.net/wedding-photography-forum/00Evnc
You need to copy the whole disk first to your hardrive, not drag and drop the files.Copy the whole disk with dvdfab then open the video_ts folder with clone DVD in the clone disk option.Highlight the first video file and watch it in the preview, you can fast forward it to the end. When you highlight the first file you can see the information about the file, when ready to copy the disk just UN tick the rest of the files you don't need and either save it as an iso,or a video_ts.Below is a link to clone dvd its a full 21 days free trial hope this helps. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/clonedvd.cfm This is the slysoft version if you Google elby you can download that version if you prefer.
Well, I'm still working on it. I'm using the DVDfab program and have copied the dvd to the hard drive. No real luck there as the folder is completely empty. I tried to copy the files I had on the hard drive from earlier at least using this dvdfab program. It got closer then anything so far. The main menu showed up. The video did not play, but at least it is that far. *S* I appreciate your help, killalot... and all of you.
You may need to run the files through this program to correct the errors. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/fixvts.cfm When you copy the whole disk in fab you will get two folders,video_ts and audio_ts the audio folder will be empty.
Well, THIS may be a bit more helpful. I am unable to open the platinum version. Only the gold. In platinum, it scans the drive the DVD is in and shuts the program down. I can start it up in gold version... but there is no clone option there. Any thoughts?
Not sure why you cant open the platinum version, you have got this version haven't you? http://www.dvdfab.com/ When you ran the setup did you choose the free version platinum?Uninstall dvdfab and reinstall it from the link above and choose the free version during setup. The clone option you're referring to is in clone DVD not dvdfab.Once in dvdfab on the left you select copy whole disk.
On this link look at the screen shot and this is what you should be faced with.If you choose full disk it will copy the whole disk, change the target to somewhere you will remember i.e my documents,or make a document somewhere.I don't think you can select any of the other options i.e customize unless you buy the product. http://www.dvdfab.com/dvd-fab-platinum.htm
FINALLY!!!! I got it to work in a backwards type way. I used the Nero Recode software and basically ripped the video file out of one of the VOB files (it ended up being the VTS_03_1.VOB) crazy crazy crazy. Anyway I thank you all for trying to help, and giving me some new direction into how to troubleshoot these issues. Thank y'all!
