I have been looking for a decent PVR with twin tuners, divx support, USb (External drives containing divx files) and DVD-RW (not essential).

Basically all I want is to play My divx on my tv. I've seen external enclosures which play divx, but for the price of these I may as well get a PVR. I have a Radeon 9200 which does not output composite (but is to load to have near a tv even if I purchased a Svideo to scart cable.

Recently I've decided to look at the Xbox. I've never owned an Xbox, and I've only played one once.

I've read a little but hoped someone can give me some info.

Can the standard original Xbox use an external enclosure, or even a flash drive, containing divx (to play on tv).

Using XBMC: I'm sure I read I would need the Xbox chipped, is this correct?

Xbox 360 question: How do the hard drives function with this are they like the official Sony drives for PS2? Is it possible to install any other drives (eg. maxtor) yet?

Sorry about all the questions and thanks in advance to anyone who can help me

Well if you get a chip, or softmod the Xbox yourself. Then you can FTP. Once you can FTP you have a ton of options and things you will be able to do.
For example you can set up a wireless connection with a wireless gaming adapter and wireless router so you could stream files strait from the PC to the TV that the Xbox is hooked too. This includes any movie format that XBMC will play. So the movie could be on the PC and you play it on any TV within range of the wireless connection.

Or you could swap out the hard drive with a larger one, mine has a 300GB Western Digital in it and i am running on a DuoX2 chip, then you can store movies and music in a folder on the Xbox and take it where ever you like and hook it up to a TV and play them.
If by chance you find thet Xvid can not be played by XBMC then just use DiVxtoDVD (or Divx2DVD i for get the correct way it is)
that can convert them from DivX to ISO or my preference Video TS files and i know it will play the Video TS, i am almost 100% sure it will play DivX too.

then there are a million things you can do like look into an auto installer disc (if you get a chip) like Slayer 2.6 or AID 3.0
these can set up your hard drive with a ton of skins, dashboards, programs like XBMC, Emulators & Roms
It is done in just one easy step as well.
A modded system will also play back up discs of games, play internet radio stations, and a ton of other things

Thanks for the reply. I will probably end up getting a router for my PSP (WIFI Max is rubbish, DNS errors - I give up) so that will be handy. I read somewhere that you can use a usb wifi dongle (probably xbox 360), do you have any idea how this would work? the drivers are writen for Windows.

Any idea about hooking up an external device through USB?

    thanks again man
