what do i need to play burnt DVDs

    so i recently burnt a few movies to dvds.. but my problem is that none of my dvd players or my xbox (with unleashX) will play them. So my question is, do i need to ftp a player to my xbox in order to play the movies? if so what ones? or is it just the type of movie file i burnt them as? (.avi)
    any help would be apreciated.
