i have: 2.80Ghz CPU Intel celeron D single core
    and a NVidia geforce 5200FX
Some of my games run slow and im not sure what the cause is, i have an acer aspire SA10, what one of each would you recomend me to get?
also, im not sure if you can help me on this, when i overclock my 5200, some of my games just seem to lock up all of a suddden, no lag whatsoever, it'll just stop, then about 10 secs after the audio will stop to, then about 5 seconds later, all of a sudden audio will come back and PC will completly unlock and eveything will be fine, yet i got a big fan and mounted it above my GPU's heatsink and it actually is WAAAAAAAYYYYY cooler then it is with no overclocking without fan. could the GPU be damaged? one of my problems is in sonic riders game, in story mode when those little videos play in between races the subtitles are WAAAAAAAYYYYY out, the characters talk and the sub's come up about 15-20 sec's later, really bad...

Any ideas? or ways i can speed up my PC or overclock without freezing, this is a big prob

    thanks in advance :)

It's a celeron and a 5200.. don't bother.. upgrade or put up with it. That cpu probably isn't any better than an amd1600+

that geforce 8600 gt is a pci/e 16 card whereas yours is either pci or agp so new card is not compatible with current system.

but, are you sure mine wont support it, is there a way to check?

your computer has a agp 4x slot. you're not gonna find any 1gig agp cards; those are only available to pci-e x16 cards. the highest agp cards go to is 512mb.

even if you get a new card, you'll need a new power supply. the stock one in the acer won't be able to power a new one; and a a decent power supply costs around $80.

There's no feasible way you can get your current system to play any games without horrific lag, it's just too old.

That card will work in your system, but it's still very slow by modern standards, and the CPU is just as much of a bottleneck as the graphics card really.

i see, well, the games i play at the moment dont lag that much but they still do, do you think if i buy that card it'll make a big ot decent improvment to my performance compared to my 5200? and, is there any way to link 2 CPU's together for 1 PC? anyways, thanks again :)

How much it will improve your games really depends on what sort of games you're playing, they're presumably quite old, and if they are, adding the new graphics card will help. There's no way you can link two CPUs together to help performance for a remotely reasonable budget.

ok, thanks all for the help :)
oneee more thing (instead of making new thread) would it be worth it to install windows 2000 over XP, would that make it any faster?
