Hello I am fairly new to the science of converting DVD media/files. I am very seriously considering the purchase of Nero. Can anyone tell me if Nero will convert all types of media files i.e. mpeg, wmv etc. etc. I know it is a terrific burner. Just another quick question. I noticed many versions of Nero, most notably 7 ultra, for sale on ebay. Has anyone had any experience in the purchase of Nero products through ebay? How authentic are they? Does Nero recognize them at all. Thanks in advance for any input at all.
I think that nero handles only mpeg1/2 and avi (you'll need to have the codec). Normal version of nero doesn't even convert them, you'll need nero vision. But if nero doesn't convert them, then there's plenty of other free methods to convert videos to formats that nero supports. Other option could be buying basic version of nero, and for converting winavi video converter, which handles almost all format conversions (wmv, mpg, rm, avi -> dvd and vice versa if I remember correctly). There's more bootlegs available on ebay, than authentic one's. So you should always check sellers feedback, if there's even one negative saying "bootleg", then most probably all of his/hers auctions are bootlegs.
arcanix Thank you very much for the feedback. I will be wary on ebay. When you say basic version of Nero what exactly is that. The only nero I seem to be able to come across is one that has all the features vision, express etc.etc. I did use Nero on a trial and thought it burned extremely well. How do I get the basic version?
I think you will be more than happy if you decide to go with Nero7, it contains things like Recode, NeroVisionExpress etc. The version I would go for at present is this one http://httpdl6.us.nero.com/software/nero7/Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe theres a very good guide in my sig by alkohol, check it out.
thnks so much I have heard a lot of complaining/problems with Nero 7. A number of people have suggested Nero 6 Ultra due to the amount of bugs in Nero 7. What are your thoughts regarding that?
My $0.02 worth... I agree with Gwen, get the Nero 7. I've used it and have not had a problem. That being said... We still get lots of posts on Nero 6 problems as well as Nero 7. Nero 7, like 6, is just as complex a program and so will have similar problems reported. Most of the time it is a problem with the user's PC, burner, media or incorrect use of the program, etc. Occasionally there may be a problem with the installation of the program or conflicts with other programs. I find it to be a reliable burning program and if it ever has a problem it makes a detailed log that really helps in getting things sorted back out. I also use some of the other features like NVE for capturing and making slideshows.
The version I recommended is FREE OF BUGS, thats why I recommended it. There is also a Nero6 version out there that is also FULL OF BUGS so I dont recommend THAT particular version.
i found the best way to legally own nero 7 was to download it from their site and buy a serial key from them and you get a savings of like 10-20 dollars off the store bought one. you can always burn it to cd yourself along with the tutorials and everthing else available on thier site. you may as well do it this way because if you buy the store boxed version you wont really be using it because when you update it reinstalls the whole program with the new version. only reason to buy it at a store is if you like the pretty boxes.
