My first 2 choices would be Plextor and then Pioneer in that order. Plextor is more expensive. I'm still running a Pioneer 106D but when it dies the replacement will be another Pioneer, probably a dual layer, but with the blanks at $10. to $15. each the dual layer part won't get used much.

I cant recommend the Pioneer dvr-107d highly enough.

Only had it a couple of days...burned 40+ discs and not a single coaster.

Try ether one of these Drives : Pioneer Black DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model DVR-108, OEM $86.00 (note: the Pioneer is a Dual Layer Drive) or the NEC 8X Black Dual Layer DVD+/-RW Drive, Model ND-2510A BLK, OEM BULK $67.00 @ newegg.com (Yes I’ am a NEWEGG Junky)

If I needed one right now it would be the DVR 108D. The problem is I can't seem to wear out this 106D. Maybe I'll build another system and put the 108 in that.

I am new to the DVD game and bought an LG GSA 4120b from Ewaggle.com for $88 shipped to my door in TX.

So far it has handled most everything I put in it. We are not talking BeAll or Ritek media, more like Wal Mart Memorex +RW and Verbatim +R... for testing. All burns were done with DVD Shrink and Nero on an old 500mhz PIII. All burns done so far have worked on a Panasonic, samsung and Pinoneer players.
