    let me start off by stating that i am pretty new and green with the whole burning dvd thing. Also i'm still kicking it old school and still working with windows 98. anyways my brother let me borrow a movie that i wanted to copy for myself. when i ripped it to my computer it came up as a Video_ts folder that contains

    2 = .bup files
    2 = .ifo files and
    6 = .vob files

    what i am wondering is now that i no longer have the original dvd in my hands is there a somewhat easy way to convert these files into mpeg2 or.avi format so i can burn the movie to play in a vcr with NERO 7 premium??? I have already tried to use nero for it but when i try to load it is gives me an error message that says something about the disk being full. any help would be much appreciated.

    First off you say you want to play this in a vcr?

    A VCR takes video cassettes not DVD's and this is a DVD forum. You would have had to hook up your VCR to your DVD player and play the DVD while recording with the VCR.

    The reason you are getting the error message in Nero is because the DVD is to large. You probably have the setting set to DVD5 disc and the DVD is probably a DVD9 disc.

    If you mean you want to burn the DVD to a DVD and not a VCR Cassette then you will need to either shrink the DVD to a single layer Disc or use a double layer disc to fit the DVD onto a disc with no compression.

    Below is a guide that you can use Nero recode2 to compress the DVD to fit on a single layer disc. If you have a premium edition of Nero then you will have Nero Recode2. You already have the DVD riped to your hard drive so there is no need to read the top part of the guide. Go down to the bottom of the guide where it shows you how to use Nero Recode2.

    You can also use DVD Shrink to compress the DVD to a single layer disc. Below is a link to a guide for DVD Shrink. You do not have to use this program if you do not want to since you have DVD Recode2 already that will get the job done. But if you do want to try it out then a guide and a link to the program is below.

    Even tho rav009 was nice enough to give a link to the homepage to DVD Shrink they do not have direct links to the program on that site. So here is a link for the program off the Afterdawn site.

    (You beat me to the post rav009 lol)

    first off i wish to thank you both for responding so quickly, and larrylje i just had a brain fart i meant to say that i wish to play it in my regular stand alone home dvd player. I do still have a problem though because i tried to use both nero recode 2 and DVDShrink and followed the guides you both supplied but both came up with the same error saying that they could not open the Video_ts folder, so needless to say i am just as, if not more clueless as before. any thoughts on other options or am i just having a mentally stupid day today?

    to tell the truth i do not remember which program i used due to the fact that in the last 2 weeks i have downloaded and tried numerous programs to try to initially rip the movie and now to convert this movie.

    The reason i ask is it could be possible that you did not rip the movie correctly to the HardDrive. Can you play the DVD of your HDD with your DVD player program on the computer?
