ok i live int he country and the dsl line stops like 200 feet away i was wanting to know how i could share it with my aunt wirelessly and what equipment id need like antennas and how to hook it up we live about 1/2 to 1/3 a mile away form each other and a couple of tree here and there can someone tell me where and what id need or a good guide?
You may want to start looking here. It is not going to be cheap, as most standard kit will only offer service up to a range of 100 feet approx. This kit will offer a 4KM range. http://www.cellamericas.com/store/customer/home.php?cat=276&catexp=276
Even if you manage to make the connection with wireless another thing you will have to look at is latency. In your previous post you said this would be for playing Xbox Live. With those distances your latency will increase a whole lot, making many online games unplayable. For example a friend lives out in the country and has the Starband connection that uses a satellite. In online games his latency is so bad that he is dead before he ever hears the shot since he is running about a 2000ms ping. When every other player is 2 seconds ahead of you, it makes it pretty much unplayable. I think you will find that running wireless for nearly a mile then out a dsl line your ping times will increase to where the games are too slow. For things like downloading or web browsing it wouldn't be as noticeable, but for things that require fast reaction times such as games it wouldn't be a very good solution.
Sound like you need a yagi antenna.Cantenna is alright if you don't want to build a pringles can antenna. You can unscrew one of the antennas from the wireless router and point it towards your aunts house.make sure that she has a wireless card or access point for her computer.www.cantenna.com.Haven't tried it but good luck.
ok ill stick swith this thread anyway anyone know a way i can get a signal to my aunts house past trees and stuff about half a mile
ok i gave up on this for awhile but now im going back to it and i cant get line of site so im thinking will this router http://price.pricesaving.com/productpriceg_id_367489_PARKERVISION_WR1500.htm reach about 1/3 mile from my house to her's threw some tree's and stuff if not if i bought 2 of them would it work then? sattelite dsl isnt really dsl its just mostly for buisnesses sence it has a download and upload limit im really desprit for dsl can anyone help me dial up suxs and people point and make fun of me for having it i wouldnt have it if i had a chance =(
either some vital info isn't posted on this thread, or i missed it when i scanned, but what's preventing you from running a hardline yourself from your aunt's house to your own? screw trying to get wireless that whole distance...hook up a router in your house and run the cable to hers. your performance wouldn't be near as limited.
so you mean i could run 1/2 mile of cats 5 cable to her house and it would run well? id have to find a drain pipe to go under the small public road tho =/
if you got a Ditch Witch and some outdoor cable, i would think it would work, long as you wire it correctly. but remember, i'm not an expert.
hmm i wann now for sure before we but 400$ in ethernet cable btw this isnt really illegal my granpa own our land and my aunts so its really just sharing it with his own basicly
You can't run cat5 for that distance at all. the max spec it will work correctly at is 100meters. If you are planning on running cable that far look at fibre optic cable. A couple of multi-mode media convertors is the best way to go.
Single Mode fiber is about $1.50 to $2 a meter, so if you are a half mile away you are talking approximately 800 meters. That's at least $1200 for the cable alone, not counting the transceivers to connect them to ethernet. I think a fiber connection would be out of your budget and you also have to consider it is very hard to splice so if it ever gets cut you would be buying it again or paying a professional to splice it. Wireless is about the only thing you can do at that distance, and even then you will probably need professional gear, not a pc network card. It's possible it might be done with wireless repeaters along the way, but that adds more to the cost and latency. I have ran wireless the distance you mention but it has been with pro gear and antennas, Orinoco Wireless Bridges are what I used at work and some pro grade antennas. With that I was able to link two offices, but there is still a lot of latency, which as I mentioned in my previous post would make any kind of gaming practically unplayable since you would be seconds behind everyone else from the latency.
what if i just bought 2 of these routers http://www.digitaladvisor.com/compu...wireless-4-port-dsl-cable-router_reviews.html would that work? this is a 1 mile of range router but id be willing to buy 2 for the effort is it possible ? i plan to buy 2 if it would be possible cause i has some tree in the way from there to here so id need a good signal on both ends if this is possible could u tell me how id do it?
does anyone know how good wildblue satelitte internet is i wanna atleast be able to play my dial up games stil some actua;;y run well i dont wanna get somthn that will speed up downloading but kill my gaming like wow and stuff
could anyone point me to a site where i can get equipment that can go threw trees so i can get a signal for wireless dsl? picture a world without dsl = me
