I have a Macbook I think it uses Leopard. I am currently using TomatoTorrent but it can be slow at times. Is there a faster Mac bittorrent program available for it? Is Transmission better? When I had a Dell I used UTorrent which was extremely fast. I sort of regret getting a Mac.

You sort of regret getting a Mac because of BitTorrent clients? LOL! Kids!

Azureus is the most powerful client out there. It runs on a Mac.

    Transmission is an awesome client.

Utorrent is coming to the Mac, if you ask the developers nicely they'll give you an alpha version to try out.

What's "azureus traffic"? BitTorrent traffic? That's not Azureus only.

susieqbbb, what did you mean by this?

In most countries it is actually illegal to spy on transmissions any more than they can wire tap your phone without a warrent. That even goes for ISPs. It is unlawful to even discriminate between torrents and video streaming. That is why the ISPs are now going to start traffic quotas. That is also why the media maffia has not been taking torrent users to court. They can not legally get probable cause to hack your computer to get evidence.

Still, I would never use a torrent client that did not allow forced encryption and I would only send and receive encrypted packets. That makes it much harder for anyone to prove you are doing something wrong if you are. If they ever go after torrent users they will go after the tens of millions of easy marks first. About 10% or more torrent traffic is legal and growing. That is why the FCC is protecting torrent activity.

i know it's illegal but company's are producing fake torrents under names like download microsoft office here.torrent and a few others that are being produced by apple and microsoft and a few others mostly under the trackers produced by the pirate bay i own legally mac os x leopard and i wanted a backup of my leopard disk so i went and downloaded one from one of these and received a e-mail warning from comcast and apple to stop downloading immediatly or they will cancel my account or file charges against me and worse still i had my computers violated by comcast who had no legal right to search my machine but yet sent 2 trucks to my house and tryed to gain access to my computers and i know this because my firewall told me and blocked them out of my systems.

They can just read the torrents if they are not encrypted. Each packet has the name of the file and what it is. Although it is illegal to monitor you, if they do not use that data in a legal process they can pretty much get away with survalance. I suspect Comcast was actually doing the survaliance not Apple. ISPs have the ability to check what is comming through their gateway. Comcast has implemented a fully automated system that monitors all traffic. All Comcast users probably have records of all the torrent activity. The job and start and finish times. A Cox user got to see his last months torrent activity before he could resume the service they cut off. They knew what he did better than he did. That robot system is the one that makes the fake torrents. It sends I am done packets to both sides of the connection killing it. Comcast is under investigation by the FCC for illegal practices. Had you been stupid enough to let Comcast in they could have collected what they needed to put your ass in a sling. Because they did not aquire the evidence for probable cause legally they could not force an entry. You had to give them permission.

Comcast is publicly distancing themselves from these practices but are surely continuing their practice but being more careful how they use the information they aquire.

I forgot, any one using torrents should encrypt their flows even if what you are doing is legal. That really screws up their process.

Azureus ftw. Trust me, I've used Transmission, Bittorrent, XTorrent, along with a bunch of less known ones and nothing can match Azureus' speeds. I know it doesn't make much sense as the tracker should provide speeds but I tend to get fast bitrates using Azureus instead of the other clients.
Transmission can be good if you want a quick clean alternative, but Azureus is key to batch downloading.

I have a PC but have not tried Azureus. I can say Bitorrent is not very fast on the PC. I can double the speed with a faster client. This is what I was looking for, a fast Mac client for a friend.
