I use verbatim for burning dual-layer, of course, but i need a good quality, widely available single-layer media for direct dvd copies of single-layer films (and some small-size dual-layer films).

Also, what do you guys think of TDK and Maxell brands?

    Hi there,

    Taiyo Yuden is the best.
Verbatim Datalife and FujiFilm (Made In japan) is pretty good media.

TDK is made by too many companies.
You can get 1 pack made my Taiyo Yuden, and an other made by CMC Magnetics (The worste media).

If you buy some media, use VSO Inspector v1.1 --> http://www.vso-software.fr/

It will tell you the media maker, and the media ID !

Then you can read what other people say about the media here --> http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia

Verbatum and taiyo yuden are the two most recommended dvd5 medias. Maxell are usually good for both formats but be leary of TDK dvd+r format.

Thanks, guys. Maxell is widely available where I am at (in Texas), but I wasnt sure of the quality. I looked on www.rima.com, may buy a couple of verbatim 50 packs there.

I wouldn't load up on large quantities of blanks unless you are sure your burner likes that brand. Its always best to try a few small batches of blanks first to see which work the best and give you the best quality of video. Just a suggestion.

IMO, if you have had success with the dual layer Verbatim, then your burner likes this media, it would be a good brand to stick with. Just a suggestion.
