Excuse how long this post is but I am sure other people here feel like me about the following and if you have a gripe about Nero you should reply. Everybody in Best Buy recommended Nero to me. I have found it to be a horrible program that seems like it was made in somebody's garage. I mean the simplest most obvious things they could fix, but they don't. It definately was not intended to make professional looking DVDs and now with another upgrade just 2-3 months after the last one...it seems like they have alot of updates all sitting on their table ready to go..but withhold them, and only release a little bit at a time so they can bust out a new "updated version" every couple of months and make us pay for it each time...instead of just putting all the updates in at once and making it a solid, good program...and they rush these "upgraded" versions out so fast before they work out all the glitches and quirks in them. I mean what kind of company makes you pay each time for upgrades and comes out with more than 3 upgrades in a year!? They are on 7.5 now!? It's not 8...so they must not of changed that much about it...Half an upgrade but still the same price as the upgrade from 6 to 7!? Are there any programs you guys know that are better? I mean I'm pissed and ready to move on now and you should all be thinking the same thing. I refuse to pay for another upgrade and I have had way more problems with 7 than I did with 6. The program is all about conforming. I use Nero Vision and below is a list of easy little things they have made complicated to find...or haven't given you an option at all. 1.You can't just move titles around freely on the screen...they have to go to the left side..which creates a problem because if I have a title that is 3 words such as the name of a song....I have to shorten it down to 2 words, or cut the layout down from 10 videos on the screen down to just 2 videos per menu screen so people can read the titles. 2.They have these stupid arrows at the bottom to move between menus..instead of the option of a title bar like most real dvds have that would say something like "Click here to go to the next menu"...or "click here to return to main menu". And I have found that if you make a dvd for someone like "uncle bob" or "grandma" who are not used to this kind of stuff...they seem to get confused once they get to the 2nd menu screen and there are 2 arrows not labeled pointing left and right. 3.They creators don't seem to grasp the layout of normal DVDs you find in the stores....which would have a main menu with options like "play movie, chapters, extras, etc" on the main screen. Then you click on "extras" let's say, and it brings you to another screen with new options like "Deleted Scenes, Interviews, Bloopers"...In order for this layout to be possible in Nero 7....you would have to be able to create chapters....within chapters. Which is not possible in Nero. 4. I can't count how many people I see each day who's Nero freezes on them. I have a 3.2ghz computer with over 500GB of storage, so I can honestly say that I have tons and tons of programs....FL Studio,Pro Tools,Acid Pro,Dvd Decrypter,Karaoke Maker, CrazyTalk Etc Etc.....and none of these programs has ever frozen on me. Why does Nero, such a simple stupid cheap program...have to be so sensitive to all these little things that might cause it to freeze up like the type of DVDs your using or firmware this and that. Ok thats all I have to say about that. If anybody else feels like I do please reply. And if anybody knows a better program please let me know. I mean what do the pros use? I know it's not Nero
[bold]so I can honestly say that I have tons and tons of programs....[/bold] so what is your point. seem like you hate NERO, What do you want to do? converting? burning? ect.... honestllly i have no problem with nero. i use differ programs for difference things.
I didn't know you had to pay for your updates....... no one told me that! I'm still using 6.6.0.18 and have no problems with any of the Nero programs at all. don't need the new stuff in 7 yet.... so I'll stick here. Nero has 12 or so different progarms in it to do alomst anything with DVD/CDs......it's comprehensive and there is bound to be bugs in something or other... use a stable version and stick with it untill you need to update..... and I don't remember paying for updates! Upgrades from version 6 to version 7..... I guess you pay for.... don't need their new stuff yet, so I wont' be upgrading to 7 anytime soon.
If you have a legal phurchased issue of nero yoiu do not need to pay for updaes, they are free, since you say you are a newbie i would try to learn to use nero and then if you have complaints it is ok, but not until you are experienced with it, this gives you some authority, by the way sawa dee Bll Calkins
if you are unhappy with nero, i have one word for you. COPYTODVD, this is a great program to burn music and dvds. i have no problems with nero, i have it and use it from time to time, i just prefer copytodvd for my dvd burnings, it is great and easy, just rightclick on any folder and done, start copying.
@elizerroj.......... I have all the VSO software....... ConvertXToDVD, CopyToDVD, Blindwrite, PhotoDVD, ImageResizer all are great and fast and easy to use! Can't say enough of VSO! http://www.vso-software.fr/products.php
I have been using Nero since the early days and have found that it has developed into a good mature application if a little bloated. Now I typically use Nero Burning Rom, Recode2 and Nerobackitup mostly and I find these apps are eaqually as good as other products offering the same features. Whe you say it was "not intended to make professional looking DVDs", what exactly do you mean. Sure it cannot produce DVD's in the way say Proshow Producer can but it was never intended for that kind of purpose in the first place. I have seen posts similar to yours all over the web, ie: do not use nero to burn dvd's", however my experience is exactly the opposite. I have burnt hundreds of DVD's using Nero and all have been fine complying with the requisit DVD standard. I suspect a lot of the problems ppl experience with Nero are as a result of conflicts on their systems with either software apps or indeed hardware conflicts.
@Thailand8 - If you're unhappy with Nero, then get DVD Lab Pro from http://www.mediachance.com. It allows you to make all the extras that you're looking to do; but beware that it has a steep learning curve as well.
I've used Nero for years and Nero is a good deal for the money. Professional software that you're describing runs up to about $40,000. If you want customizable studio quality, buy a program that does that along with the hardware that supports it. Don't blame Nero if you can't move Grandma into the digital age. Maybe you should spend a little more time with her.
I think you are confusing folks with the term up-grade. Nero 6 was out for a long, long time before Nero 7 came along. The two programs are light years apart in depth and application. Up-grades within VERSIONS are 100 percent FREE and always have been. I can see no reason for someone who is happy with Nero 6 to up-grade to Nero 7 unless there are programs in the newer Version that he or she really, really requires... As for Video Editing, you are correct. Nero sucks in that department. It always has. My preference for Video Editing of all kinds is "Cyberlink" either their Power Director or Power Producer will give you exactly what you want with very little fuss.. However, I still BURN the final product with either Nero Recode or Nero Express. My choice depends upon what I have done to the video and how long the final Video happens to be. You should have many, many TOOLS in your Tool Box when it comes to Video Editing. The secret is knowing which tool to use and when to use it. Knowing that difference marks one as a seasoned professional. Griping about your tools marks one as.... well, you fill in the ending as you see fit.. - Mike -
Thanks for replying with your opinions everyone. I will try those programs you have all mentioned. DVD LabPro($250) doesn't look too expensive if it does offer those features I'm looking for and more professional look. I bought dvd burner that was a little more expensive then the rest that were on the shelf awhile back and the guys at best buy told me that I wouldn't have to buy a burning program because it came with Nero 6. After a year of using it, It said it couldn't encode AVC anymore because it was a limited version(Nero 6 "suite") and I would have to upgrade. The main reason I bought this more expensive burner was because I was happy I wouldn't have to pay for a program since it came with one(Best Buy's fault not Nero's....but it made me familiar with how expensive the upgrades were). Then I bought Nero 7 and now that I saw a new version out I went to upgrade and saw this message on the upgrade screen...... Whether you are using an older version of Nero or an OEM version, please enter your current serial number below to check out your discount upgrade offer. So I guess I assumed that "wether your using an older version....check out your DISCOUNT upgrade offer" meant you would have to repay for the upgrade...maybe not full price...but still pay something... Thanks for correcting me on that. I will check out those other programs you have mentioned. But the biggest gripe I have right now is the one I have listed as #1 about having to conform with titles and shorten them down. But hopefully these other programs allow that. Thanks for replying guys Sawa Dee Bill
