Hi, I have a unmodded xbox which I've had for 6 months now. I've always said I'd get it chipped after a year of having it. This costs £50's. Thats expensive, $62.50 in U.S dollars. I'm wondering whether to soft mod my xbox via the splinter cell (PAL) method. Heres some questions I have about softmodding 1.)Is soft modding an xbox exactly the same as chipping it? 2.)What does it allow you to do? Play backups etc.? 3.)If I soft modded my xbox would I be able to get a HD upgrade so I can get more games on my HD? Will the soft modding software allow come with an option to rip games to my HD? Any help will be appreciated. I don't know alot about xbox modding etc.. I know more about PS2. Thanks JParkes
1/ No. It is way different. If you accidently mess up xbox in softmod like softmoding not complete, deleting dashboard, format hdd, etc..., it is hard to fix the xbox. 2/ Yes, play backup games. Just like modchip xbox. 3/ Yes, you can upgrade hdd. It is a little hard.

It really depends on the game.700m-4.5g and anywhere in between. 2.)I prefer UnleashX. 3.)Depends on the dvd drive,mines a Samsung and only plays dvd-r,(Although by using dvd decrypter you can change the bookmark to - and burn to a dvd+).Phillips and thompson seem to take both.The Samsung seems to be better at cd-r and it's not so picky about the make of disc. 4.)Yes. 5.)Yes, just read the tutorial well. 6.)Yes, very good. 7.)A good way yes,just make sure you pick the PAL file for PAL(UK)xbox, all 3 are as easy to do.
On the tutorial my azidrain it says copy the SID 4.0 launcher file, and the splinter cell (PAL) file to the xbox memory card. why do I need two files if it only comes up on splinter cell with one(LINUX) game save?
