What is the best all in one media program for video (plays alltypes of video files) What is the best all in one media player for music (plays all types of music files) NOTE: I am looking for programs to replace WMP
no it uses WAY more pc resources than stuff like winamp or VLC or foobar this is because of its useless styling and visualzations
probably the Quintessential Player it can play anything and its better than wmp if thats what you are looking for: www.quinnware.com
I've found some cool visualizations for WMP like G-Force (Google it, it's pretty cool). Oh well, to each his own.
not to sound like a jerk and all cause I forgot to mention it in the original post, BUT I am looking for porgrams to REPLACE WMP so I would appreciate it if ppl didn't post saying how they like or how they use WMP
How about this then... Since WMP was designed for Windows, especially with the thought that it should not cause and conflicts with the main O/S, which is Windows, maybe another program "might" cause such a conflict, so why bother with another? Not to say others are not good programs, just that sometimes other programs might cause a conflict with programs already on your PC, which in turn would or could cause an additional conflict. If this doesn't make sense, then maybe another program other then WMP would not make sense as well. Does this make sense? <G>
I really don't think you will ever find a perfect all-in-wonder that looks good or requires less CPU, but I would like to add some things I use that are light and reliable: 1) Media Player Classic is great for all kinds of audio and video files, you just need to get the codecs it doesn't have and you're good to go. 2) CDex is a very good audio ripper, easy to use, and with the LAME MP3 encoder is the best sounding. 3) FFDSHOW is a good codec program that handles DivX, XviD and MPEG very nicely with very low CPU usage. 4) You should get Quicktime Alternative and Real Alternative to play those formats, because both of them are just the codec packs, and they are fully compatable with MPC. All of these are free, they're on this site, and have been great for me. Even though MPC looks like the old WMP, it out-performs it by leaps and bounds, and a must-have for someone who just wants a simple-to-use program that doesn't have a bunch of crap hanging off of it. See ya.
lol you used the word sense more than I have in a week And yes what you said makes sense, but I believe that even though microshaft made the program to work with its OS, there are certain programs that are better Honestly, WMP's feature set is great, its down fall in my opinion are the security issues, problems with codecs, its bloated (too big i.e file size), uses up too much ram and cpu power (and no my pc is not weak) Again, I have made my mind to ditch WMP. if you aren't going to post anything about an alternative, don't post
So far these seem to be my options right now (not in any order) Music: Winamp Quintessential (I checked it out and I like it) Plug my ipod into pc foobar Video: Media Player Classic Video Lan Client Player Also just to add it into the mix, I have an ipod. I don't like using Music match or itunes to load music onto it. Are there any programs out there that are just for loading music onto ipod that are small and use little resources
Hey matrixtna, I've found that BS pLayer works well; I've had several avi's that I couldn't get to play in other players and BS player played it fine. I have no idea why, it may have a few extra codecs that the other players didn't have access to or something? Most recently I've fallen in love with the Nero 6 Ultra Suite which includes the Nero ShowTime player. The player (in my opinion) has the sharpest picture and sound of any player I've used to date. It does especially well with MPG4. Anyway happy hunting.
To ou814me: No offense, but I just tried Showtime Player (because I downloaded it at an earlier date), and I can honestly say that it isn't that great. I tried playing a few DivX 5 movies and it looked really bad. It even said that it didn't even have MPEG-4 support because I need a retail Nero 6 Ultra Edition (which I do, that's how I installed it!). Then, I tried to play a VOB to check the MPEG2 specs, and it lagged like crazy! I really couldn't tell the sound difference from MPC when I played music, but it sounded the same. What I really dislike about this player is that, like most players, it tries to make itself the main default player right away, and some of my MP3s that played in MPC got its splitter and started skipping. So now I'm just going to forget that player and never use it again.
there was this media player that was free ware one time on limewire, it was crystal media player, i downloaded it and it was amazing played every format including quicktime(a.k.a. quittime).
