Hard time needs hard measures! Ok, let’s try to talk about something different then updates for the Boxes and try to take something positive and useful from all that hassle. Let’s try to find out witch Cable Box is the best on the market. From my point of view the best Box is the one that is fully working and with good support. The better support the is the cable box so far. Leading with the first place is definitely original Virgin cable Box. But great respect for those and good luck for those who have official subscription. Second place takes definitely KRYPTVIEW. It took them only 24h to release the fix. Hands up, it’s really quick. For now I know with what make of Boxes I’ll be dealing in the future. Third place takes DM 500c or similar. Even fix is still not there for most users, but because linux boxes have additional features I can bet some of people even never knew about recent tsunami. Some of them having just little bit more hassle to get the picture back. Also box has a brighter future for whatever king of possible code changes. So far, happy owners of DM 500c just looking at others problems and smiling. All the rest of makes still in the race. Just curios who may become the last? I may be wrong but something telling me that not even cheap Chinese copies. It’s less common in china to take the bucks and after just to drink the beer in the pub during the whole weekend.
I'm confused as to what the criteria used to define 'best' are. Is a box better because a 3rd party is soonest to write firmware for it? I've dealt with nothing but Eurovox for a couple of years now and I have had the least issues with that box when I've ensured it comes from Rayyonics. I'm looking at a Eurovox PVR now with sky sports on ( even though I pay for a full XL package with sports and Movies for the sitting room ) and it's hardly inconvenient to update the keys twice a day whilst waiting for a firmware update. I think 'best' is whichever box best suite the needs of the person using it.
To be frank… these days there no such a thing like a 3rd party software. And the better is support the better sales will be!!! Simple as that
you think that the manufacturer of the hardware produce the decryption software for the boxes? How rare!
If the boxes meant to be freeview there is no need for hardware decoding chip.... it would be just waste of money.
Besides images from Gemini team for DM 500 is the best example how the manufactory has interest in software
of course the system needs an eeprom decryptor. The same way a television needs a signal decoder. i don't understand what you are getting at. I simply stated that because a third party is able to release an eeprom instruction set for 1 piece of hardware that it does not make that hardware any better than any other. The hardware did not change. I still don't know what you are talking about and I've read it a few times. You are giving me the impression that you think that the Korean and Chinese manufacturers are responsible for the eeprom code on their boards. They are sold wholesale and blank.
I'll have to leave this here. I don't see how you can judge how much better a piece of hardware is solely on how fast someone else is able to write code for it. Perhaps the Kuro team are on holiday. Perhaps they are not even bothering with an update. It does not make the Eurovox less or more of a machine than any other. I'm not saying any box is 'the best' I'm just saying that the criteria for judging is flawed and that your statement that 'these days there no such a thing like a 3rd party software' is incorrect considering that all the firmware instruction sets are coded by third parties. i.e. not the hardware manufacturer. But then my degree was in TV and audio electronics servicing so what do I know?
YES IT'S MY CRITERIA..... AND EVEN IF I'M WRONG IT'S STILL MY PREROGATIVE As you mentioned earlier “the best cable box is the one whatever better suites your needs” Different people have a different needs. Why the hell on earth I supposed to have an interest in this boxes, even I don’t have Virgin Cable at home installed? For educational purposes perhaps
