I was wondering if anyone can help, i have got a CD-RW and am getting fed uo with it.

This is because i have, around 300 disks full of 700Mb worth of data, so this would be a considerable amount less is they were DVD-R's.

I live in the UK, so the market may be different where you live, but what is the best [bold]External[/bold] DVD-R or DVD-RW in the following categories?

    - Speed
    - Value For Money
    - Style

If you give a price that would be even better, as i am willing to order it over the web, and the location wouldn't realy matter.

Well if you are going to use your dvd burner to backup pc\audio cd protections then go with Lite-ON. if this doesn't apply to you then search the internet. Most popular brand name dvd burners I read at many forums are Sony& Pioneer. I know Pioneer can't backup pc\audio cd protection worth a darn, Sony "might" backup a few pc\audio cd protections.

    hi Shoey,

The two companies you mentioned are up in the list of top electronical manufacturers, and it is true in most cases of electronical equipment, when they say you get what you pay for, i.e. a Sony or Pioneer product will be EXPENSIVE, therefore it being of better quality (in my experience).

But the key word i mentioned was 'Expensive', hey i'm a 19 year old student, who is the laziest person on earth, who only does stuff when it suits me, i live in the UK where everything good is expensive, i have wealthy parents, who won't give me money, because i haven't got a job.

In other words i don't think i can afford them, there is this other company called Lacie or something or other, but i am not sure whether or not i should buy one at the moment now, maybe i am rushing, should i wait until the prices go through a slicing phase, or has that already happened? And speed for me is a big factor, and i think at the moment they ain't too good.

    Whadya think guys??

Oh and i will use them for storing AVI's (data), MP3's, .bin files (there too big for normal cd-r's at the mo and i only have 7Gb left out of 80Gb space), also big AVI files that are 800Mb, there killing me....

Here in the USA, Memorex dvd burners are "reasonably" priced but I can't confirm if the dvd burners are rebagged Lite-ON drives. The cd burners [bold] are confirmed to be [/bold] rebagged Litey drives as I own one and have used Litey firmware to flash the drive.
