I personally like UnleashX but yeah there are a few more options w/ EvoX. The other dashes I don't know. If you have a Thompson (like I do :( ) then I'm not sure. I know that the Phillips and Samsung accept CD-R's (I think), but i don't think Thompson does.

I thinking modding an xbox is OK if you do it for the reason i do it for i like to purchase NTSC/JAP games from overseas and i also like to backup the games that i have bought so i dont scratch my originals as for the Gameshark + trainers its a nice add on but i didnt mod my system just for the cheats i modded it for the import games and my backups that i do own the originals but anyways enouph about that.

    My favorite Dashboard(s) are:

    Evo-X
AVALAUNCH = this one is my favorite cuzz of the MP3 player and copier and much more then Evo-X i can copy cds to mp3 but cant play em

I totally agree manimull, that is the reason people should mod an xbox but instead they are retards and want to cheat at games and ruin them for legit players.

modding is good because i makes people think and reprogram their xbox hell you got to be really smart to know how to do that and the only people that get mad at it is the people who play halo all day and get pissed off becauce someone made there level go down oh that something to get mad at

Another Avalaunch user here, but can't say I've tried UnleashX. Find Avalaunch a lot prettier, and I've got my MP3 collection on the drive, so the moment you boot up it is a music player too. It also lets you play with the colour of the light at the front of the xbox, looks pretty cool having the power light red with the crystal case.

EDIT: If your drive doesn't play CD-R, you can't play CD-R. BUT you can almost certainly read CD-RW discs and DVD-R discs.

Hi all! after reading this post as it grows it has sparked my interest in Avalaunch . I have download it and read the tuts at http://www.teamavalaunch.com/ but Im a litle unsure about all the editing involved . I plan on setting up a another harddrive and taking out the stock one that is fully operational with evox on it . That way if I screw up the 2nd drive I have the fuly operational original . Ok heres my question , can some one direct me to any other tutorials that have worked for you to install avalauch ? thanks.

I never read a tutorial at all, I just heard of this alternative to EvoX and downloaded if from #xbins. Very straightforward to install, probably just extract the files you received and copy the tree structure into C: on your xbox. In terms of editing the ini file, there isn't a tremendous amount to be done. What I would recommend is installing what it comes with as a first try, see what everything looks like, and then open up the ini file. Actually, it might be a .xml file, regardless, open it up in a text editor, poke around and experiment. In terms of keeping your original disk, that is cool, there are a few ways of doing things. First, take a backup of the drive via FTP. You might also like to unlock your original drive (your BIOS tools should let you do this) before putting it into storage. You can then make a boot CD with EvoX on it with a custom menu to allow you to format the drives when you install the new disk. Then reboot with the disc still in the drive (so that you have FTP still enabled), and transfer the original folders back onto the formatted drive. You can also do a format/install using Slayers, but I've never tried as the download was too big at the time, and I wanted to keep all of my save games.

Basically, take a backup of things before you start, read all you can (especially from xbox-scene) and don't be afraid to experiment if you are able to start from scratch without losing anything. I don't think it is really possible to do permanent damage except getting yourself banned from xbox live by playing around, so go nuts.
